Trans and gender-diverse people are often left out of health research—and that has real consequences. The Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Center is leading a coalition of LGBTQIA+ organizations across the state collecting data for the 2026 Pennsylvania LGBTQIA+ Health Survey.

SAN DIEGO, CA — On Friday, March 21, executive board members of OUTreach, the constituency group for Two-Spirit, Le***an, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Q***r (2SLGBTQ+) community members and allies who are represented by the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) International Union, voted unanimously to take a vocal stand in solidarity with the transgender community. The vote, which was taken at their biannual convening, comes amidst a concerning influx of attempts across North America to limit, revoke, and erase the rights and contributions of transgender people.

The UFCW OUTreach executive board, which is comprised of union members from UFCW Locals throughout the United States and Canada, released the following statement as a result of the unanimous vote:

“North America’s Labor Movement was founded on the principle that collective action is the ultimate tool to deliver justice. Guided by this fundamental truth since our chartering in 2013, it has been our singular focus at UFCW OUTreach to uplift and unite ALL working people, regardless of who they love, how they identify, or where they were born.

As trade unionists, we feel a deep sense of urgency to speak out in support of all transgender and gender non-conforming people in our shared fight for dignity and respect on the job. Labor unions exist to protect, support, and empower anyone who wants to improve their working lives, and that must always include our transgender brothers, sisters, and siblings.

We strongly condemn attempts at all levels of government to disenfranchise trans people by restricting their access to healthcare, criminalizing which bathroom or locker room they use, and erasing their contributions to our communities. Rhetoric which seeks to demonize their existence and deny their basic freedoms has no place in our politics, in our workplaces, or in our Labor Movement.

We are hopeful that leaders in elected office will wield their power to protect the transgender community from these attacks and will continue to take any opportunity to utilize our political clout as union members to urge their action. However, we know that the best way to improve our quality of life and ensure our safety at work is by organizing strong unions and negotiating fair contracts.

UFCW OUTreach is working in conjunction with our international union to make this possible by creating template contract language for local unions to use that help keep trans workers safe, healthy, and respected at work. We also are committed to providing training to our fellow union members that help make our local unions effective advocates for 2SLGBTQ+ workers.

We will not be erased by the stroke of a pen, and we will never go down without a fight.”

The LGBTQIA+ community is a resilient community. We have survived generations of bias and varying efforts to erase our existence. Mara Keisling the founder of the National Center for Transgender Equality said this "We haven't come this far to only come this far!" TAP fully endorses this thought process as we move forward.
This organization as well as many others are not closing our doors or shutting down. We are more in solidarity with each other at this moment than ever before. Collectively, our eyes are on the horizon, and we are actively developing strategies for the short and long term.
So what can you do?
Our families, both biological and chosen become essential to our well-being, now more than ever. Stay close to them and keep your friends close. The tighter you cling to these foundations the safer you will be.
Whatever life steps you had planned for late 2024 and beyond, such as identity documents, gender markers, a marriage to your partner or whatever else should be moved up...be proactive.
Take care of each other...okay?

Everyone in the LGBTQ Community is freaking out right now. Our DM’s, SMS’s and Email have been blowing up for a week.
Our best advice is to remain as calm as possible and stay close to your family whether that’s your birth or chosen family.
Be in solidarity with your q***r siblings and know that this organization along with so many others across our commonwealth and the nation are standing tall and we are preparing to take on all the h8ers!
One other thought…look toward 2026 and the midterm elections.

Well, another Keystone Conference is in the rearview mirror. So much gratitude has to be extended to our amazing team of staff and volunteers that made the event so successful. I admit to bias, but I’m convinced this was perhaps our best effort.
The multitude of success stories of persons that have moved on to the authentic parts of their life, make the all work worthwhile.
Thank you too to all of the persons who put our Conference on their schedule because without them all the work doesn’t matter so all of you I’ve listed give yourself round of applause. With any luck, we’ll see all of you again next year.

All of the draconian and hurtful rhetoric being promulgated by the right wing is damaging all of us.

The civil war among the LGBTQ community is seemingly escalating after a survey showing that support towards the community is reducing by 7% from last year. Furthermore, some of the le****ns, g**s and bisexual individuals are stating that this is the fault of the trans and q***r community. They are s...
