For our next Teacher Spotlight, we would like to introduce Melissa Boyd! A practicing yogi for 29 years and a certified teacher for 28, Melissa started as a dance teacher, then became a yoga teacher, and then a certified Pilates teacher! Melissa has said about her teaching “I teach Iyengar Vinyasa, Chair yoga, Intermediate Vinyasa, Pre-natal yoga and Fertility yoga and Restorative yoga. I also teach a trance dance yoga. I enjoy teaching all of those types of yoga especially Iyengar Vinyasa, but I love helping women in their journey to fertility as well as helping them when they become pregnant.”
Melissa came across yoga after becoming injured while skiing in college. “In my final year of school I realized that I really did not want to become a lawyer, work for a non profit or basically do anything happening to do with my major, and I was still injured. The stress of dealing with not knowing what was next brought me to yoga. I wanted to become a yoga teacher because I wanted to help people with their stress and positive transformation.”
Melissa teaches a variety of courses at her studio, Satya Yoga and Pilates, located in Port Jefferson Station, and will be appearing at several festivals and events in the coming months. Keep up to date with Melissa at her account or at satyayogaandpilates.com
