Today we salute Bro. Daamin Durden, National Training Director of the Community Based Public Safety Collective.

A nationally respected leader in community based public safety, Bro. Daamin helped lead the groundbreaking work of the Newark Community Street Team, one of the nation’s most recognized community led public safety organizations.

Selected and personally trained by the late Commander Aquil Basheer, Bro. Daamin carries forward a powerful legacy of service, leadership, and excellence as the lead trainer for the Professional Community Intervention Training Institute (PCITI). Through his commitment to developing practitioners across the country, he continues to strengthen the field and equip communities with the skills, strategies, and tools needed to create safer neighborhoods.

Thank you, Bro. Daamin, for your unwavering dedication to the people, the practice, and the movement for community based public safety.

We’ve learned a lot about the justice system in the last 250 years. About what works, what doesn’t work, and what could be much better. On this upcoming birthday of the U.S., our commitment is to do something with those learnings – to apply everything we know about safety, accountability, and justice – and to start building the legacy of the next 250 years.

Because justice in the next 250 doesn’t have to look like the first 250. We know better, and that means it’s time to do better.

Justice & The Next 250 is an invitation to shift our collective focus to what CAN BE, and to lead the way there with expertise, with courage, with conviction. It’s permission to build a justice system future generations can be proud of. For us here at Community Based Public Safety Collective this looks like this means investing in community-based public safety solutions that prioritize prevention, healing, accountability, and long-term community stability. It means listening to practitioners, uplifting community voices, and building systems rooted in trust, dignity, and collective care.

Black music has always been more than entertainment. Long before hashtags, reports, or policy conversations, Black artists were documenting what safety, violence, resistance, and survival looked like in real time.

Songs like “Strange Fruit” forced the world to confront truths communities were already living.

Music has always been part of the movement. What artist do you think used music to speak truth about their community? 👇🏾

The Blueprint Symposium was more than presentations and panels.

It was conversation.
Connection.
Collaboration.
Relationship-building.

Community-based public safety requires people willing to listen, learn, challenge ideas, and work together toward something better. These moments matter.

Real public safety begins with investing in people, not punishment.

Powerful words from Ras Baraka reminding us that community based public safety is rooted in trust, opportunity, healing, and accountability. The people closest to the pain are often the closest to the solution.
