The Story of Choptank Lodge #138 A.F.A.M.

Choptank Lodge #138 Ancient Free and Accepted Masons has been in the town of East New Market Maryland since 1868. Making good men better and making a positive impact in the community. Choptank Lodge is a masonic blue lodge meaning it is a lodge of Freemasons that confers the three degrees of Ancient Craft Masonry (Entered Apprentice, Fellow Craft, and Master Mason). Once a member has gone through the first three degrees of masonry and has stood his proficiency they are then able to join the appendant bodies of masonry. Such as the Scottish Rite, York Rite, Shriner's, Tall Cedars, Eastern Star and many others. This lodge has great members and a laid back atmosphere for personal growth. Freemasonry uses the tools of the builders trade to teach its precepts and inspires its members to become better husbands, fathers, sons and brothers. Freemasonry is best described as a journey of a life time. It is the oldest and largest fraternal organization in the world.

Being a Mason means being part of an unbroken tradition that stretches back over 500 years to a time when guilds of Freemasons traveled throughout Europe laying the stones of the great Gothic cathedrals. The experience of Freemasonry is different for each member that joins, because being a Freemason is a journey of self improvement traveled by each brother at his own pace and along his own chosen pathway to excellence.
