Valleys of Magic

The whole idea behind the founding of Echo Valley Community Arts was because of the outstanding talent of artists, dancers, singers, and musicians in the valleys and hills of the tiny state of Vermont. In Central Vermont where I live, and teach voice, I happened to be teaching opera singers. I was participating(as a singer) in master classes, and directing musicals at a local opera house and was getting to know even more talented lighting crews and stage managers. It dawned on me one day that I wanted to direct Mozart’s Magic Flute because I had the singers for the lead roles. I also had an amazing artist whose fantastical art would be perfect for the wild tale of the pagan Queen of the Night and the abduction of her daughter by the usurping lord who replaced her husband in the temple of the sun. It took two years to raise money and get the ball rolling, and I felt supported by the local community every step of the way. Since then our tiny company has done five more operas, nine operafests and developed Shakespeare camp for kids in 2007. We have watched our local kids grow up through the operas and camps and become professional singers and actors. We discuss our future dreams and hope the hills and valleys of Vermont will speak the love of the arts to our world.
