You may have missed NYS Regional Parks' famous “Air Show” or the chance to blow out the candles on Long Island’s largest birthday cake, assembled for the centennial celebration in 2024.

Perhaps you missed the Centennial Challenge this past Saturday at Heckscher State Park. But you haven’t missed the beautiful sunrises or sunsets at our state beaches—they're still there waiting for you.

As someone who works in real estate, I love visiting what I "own." Did you know that as a NYS resident, you own the parks and beaches too? No real deed necessary. Robert Moses was an extraordinary visionary. Come out and enjoy *your* state parks and beaches. And did I mention that these experiences are **FREE**?

Come out and have some summer fun? There’s still plenty of summer left to celebrate our state parks, beaches, and this special birthday year.

I’m planning to attend the fireworks display at Jones Beach on July 4th and sing happy birthday to Jones Beach State Park on its 95th birthday on August 4th. Look for me—I’ll be wearing my bright yellow NYS Parks Fun tee shirt.

Remember, “today and tomorrow is not too late… only yesterday is.” Hope to see you out there!

The centennial comes at a time when outdoor recreation brings $31.2B in economic activity and supports 256K jobs in NYS

There are times that you meet that someone who is different from all the rest and has an unconventional way of delivering for a community. That person is Dee Thompson. Dee was not shy, but she was upfront and for over the 30 years I have know her, she made a difference.

There was so many firsts for Dee and the community ,especially those that were forgotten or underserved like huntington station. She made sure you were remembered and got the services needed and also respected.

Proud and honored to have worked with her and even helped deliver a life’s dream of naming 2nd Avenue “ Dee Thompson Way“. Dee’s legacy will continue and she will be watching from above and you may even still hear her voicewhispering in your ear … if you’re lucky.

When I drive through huntington station and pass “Dee Thompson Way”, I will look up and smile and I know she’s still with us.

We will never forget Dolores “ Dee” Thompson. Until we meet again …
