CIBS x Selina II!

Yesterday we had a great time teaming up with the Selina II for two special birding trips on Long Island’s East End.

Since CIBS usually doesn’t get out on Greenport waters until the fall, it was exciting to see the area in the middle of summer. We spotted active osprey nests, flocks of terns, and many other birds that have headed south by the time we’re usually here.

A big thank you to the Selina II crew and everyone who came out with us. We had a fantastic day on the water, and we’re already looking forward to the next one!

We had such a wonderful time guest starring at Planting Fields Foundation’s Junior Ranger Summer Camp this week!

Our youngest Junior Rangers became birders as they learned how to identify birds by both sight and sound. After our classroom exploration, we headed out on a bird walk to put their new skills to the test and see who we could spot around the Arboretum.

Looking for another opportunity to join us? We’ll also be hosting a kids birding program at Planting Fields on August 19 for children ages 5 to 12. Check out our Happenings Calendar for more information: https://www.cibirdsanctuary.org/happenings-calendar We hope to see you there!

It was such a pleasure collaborating with for a Bird Talk & Walk yesterday! Thank you for hosting such a wonderful afternoon.

Participants explored real bird bioartifacts, discovered the amazing adaptations of some of our local bird species, and then put their new skills to the test on a guided bird walk. It was inspiring to see so many people connect with the birds that call the Water Mill home.

Thank you to everyone who joined us. We can't wait to do it again!

Calling all young nature lovers!

This summer, join the CI Bird Sanctuary and the beautiful grounds of Planting Fields for Wings 2 Roots, a three-part birding and conservation series designed for curious kids ages 5–12.

Through hands-on activities, nature walks, field journaling, and outdoor exploration, young naturalists will discover what birds need to survive, investigate threats facing local habitats, and learn how they can make a difference for wildlife right in their own communities.

July 8 | When Habitats Get Hurt
Investigate invasive plants and pollution, compare habitats side-by-side, and discover how people are helping birds thrive.

August 19 | Habitat Heroes!
Celebrate your discoveries with a Gratitude Walk, create a Habitat Hero Pledge, take home a native plant seedling, and earn your Junior Habitat Steward certificate.

First beach cleanup in the books!

A huge thank you to all of our volunteers, as well as Planting Fields and their Service Corps group, for joining us this morning. Together, we removed 31 pounds of trash from the shoreline and helped make our local beach a little cleaner for wildlife and our community!

Stay tuned for our next cleanup at Soundside Beach on July 10th—we’d love to see you there!
