Did you know it was international Beaver Day?
Today is International Beaver Day, celebrating our fellow conservationists, Castor canadensis. The North American Beaver prefers to dam streams in shallow valleys, creating productive wetlands and critical habitat, which nearly half of endangered and threatened species in North America rely on. Their dams also alleviate both droughts and regional floods, while creating a natural filter and providing conditions for wetland micro-organisms to detoxify pollutants.
