Hariet Brown is striving to be a safer space, so we are enacting policies to create an environment that is supportive and nonthreatening for everyone. We want anyone who comes to our space (guests, bands, Harieteers) to be proactive in creating an atmosphere that validates the safety of others. We never intend to book any band that has perpetrators in it, so if you know of bands we have booked in
the past or may be booked in the future that have perpetrators in them, please let us know and we will not book them. We ask everyone at Hariet to be aware of their language and behavior, and to consider if it could be harmful to others. We won’t tolerate oppressive behaviors, which we define as anything that demeans, marginalizes, rejects, threatens or harms anyone based on their ability, age, cultural background, education, ethnicity, gender, immigration status, language, nationality, physical appearance, race, religion, sexual orientation, or other factors. By entering our space, you agree to abide by the following guidelines:
1) Respect people’s opinions, beliefs, experiences, and viewpoints.
2) Respect everyone’s identity and background, including pronouns and names. Do not assume anyone’s gender identity, sexuality, economic status, survivor status, health, etc.
3) Respect everyone’s physical and emotional boundaries.
4) Be aware of your own actions and the effect that they have on others, despite what your intentions may be.
5) Be responsive and considerate if someone tells you that you are making them uncomfortable.
6) Alcohol use is allowed at Hariet Brown, but please drink moderately and responsibly. Harieteers (Andrew, Dan, Ian, and Ryan) are prepared to enforce these guidelines, and reserve the right to ask you to leave if you are in violation of them. If you experience harassment, discrimination, abuse or assault, or if a perpetrator of assault is interfering with your safety and presence at any events, please let a Harieteer know. You can reach out to any of us in person, or through our page. If you have any suggestions for how to improve this policy or questions about anything within the policy, let us know! We are open to criticism, and are aware of the limited perspectives that we have. It's difficult for us to put together shows too frequently, but we'd like to help if we can, so if you have any questions or requests for putting on a show, please send an email to: [email protected]
