The bee students have been doing some great things this semester. From microscope labs, various lectures, and hive checks! We are so proud of all the students finishing up their fall semester and hope they have a wonderful break! 🎉🐝 We will be back in the spring semester with even more wonderful events!

Tonight was our first microscope lab of the school year with Dr. Peter Fowler!🥼🔬We focused on multiple diagnostic tests for American Foulbrood (AFB) and European Foulbrood (EFB)! 🐝

In 2018, Michigan State CVM Bee Medicine Club was founded after the Veterinary Feed Directive went into effect for Bees in 2017. The purpose of the Bee Medicine Club is to bring awareness to the importance of pollinators and the critical role veterinarians can play in the health of honeybee hives.

Our first in-hive demonstration of the year with Ana Heck! Our group learned about beehives structure and maintenance, how to check for disease on the frames, tests looking for varroa mites, treatments, and more! 🐝

Happy World Veterinary Day! 🐝

This past week we hosted two labs for Veterinary Students. One was a microscope lab hosted by Dr. Peter Fowler, allowing students to look at European Foulbrood and American Foulbrood, make hanging drop slides of samples, and ask questions about the diseases!🔬 The second lab was an in-hive demonstration hosted by Ana Heck, where students were able to interact with the bees and hive, along with ask questions about beekeeping! 🐝
