We’re investing in Michigan’s future! The SET SEG Foundation Fergin Scholarship supports students with financial need working toward college, university, or vocational programs.

Created in memory of Alan Fergin, a cherished SET SEG employee who was passionate about education and opportunity, this renewable scholarship awards up to $2,500 per year to Michigan high school seniors and college students.

Houghton-Portage Township Schools Celebrate MSAFE Award, Honoring Ron Peryam

We are excited to share that Houghton-Portage Township Schools has been selected as a recipient of the Michigan Safety Awareness and Facility Excellence (MSAFE) Award. This award is only given to four SET SEG member districts in Michigan each year and reflects our district’s dedication to safety, readiness, and excellence in maintaining our buildings.

This achievement belongs to our Director of Maintenance, Ron Peryam. Ron’s ownership, attention to detail, and dedication to our schools have elevated every aspect of our facilities. His leadership—together with the persistent efforts of our custodial and maintenance teams—has led to important safety measures: comprehensive Safe School/Vector Solutions training, on-campus medical care accessibility, proactive prevention of slip and fall incidents, roof inspections, surge protection for essential equipment, and piloting a v**e detection program to support student health and safety.

Along with this recognition, the district receives a $2,500 award to further strengthen our safety and facility programs, ensuring that our buildings and classrooms are truly ready to welcome students and support their learning every day.

Superintendent Anders Hill shares, “Ron's outstanding ownership and attention to detail ensure our buildings and classrooms are always ready to support students and learning. His commitment keeps our schools safe and welcoming for everyone. We are lucky to have his leadership in our district.”

We extend our gratitude to Ron Peryam for his exceptional leadership and the positive impact he has on our community. The MSAFE Award is a well-deserved recognition of his unwavering commitment to safety and facility excellence, and a testament to the district’s ongoing promise to provide a secure and nurturing environment where students and educators can thrive.
