Meet Jean Faivor! Great Start Collaborative Char-Em ISD Family Liaison!
Hello, friends! My name is Jean Faivor and I’ve lived in Charlevoix County for the past 20 years, raising my two teenage daughters, supporting folks in our community, and enjoying the beauty of this place. Although I acknowledge the many opportunities that we have to grow, I find it easy to count my blessings while living here. The friendly people, beautiful woods and beaches, inspiring libraries and schools, any number of events and festivals, and extensive public lands provide an abundance that many will never have the opportunity to experience. What a privilege and blessing to be here! One of my favorite ways to stay take it all in and also to recharge, is to take a hike on one of the many natures trails available to us.
I’ve worked in the human services field for my entire life including stints as substitute teacher, direct care worker, early childhood family liaison, and staff/housing manager for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. I’ve also been involved in local community bands, Kiwanis, and the Wagbo Peace Center. I find myself inspired by the act of creating organic systems of support and community building, which is ironic because, although my children will likely tell you I’m the last one to leave a party, I consider myself to be an introvert. However, I believe that the process of healing and building community is built on small, individual actions and that means taking the time to get to know one another by being curious and open. I often lean on one of my favorite quotes, which is “Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible."
I enjoy gathering with friends over food and good conversation, including a book club recently started called “The World We Want Book Club”. The last book we read was “Every Moment is a Life: Gaza in the Time of Genocide” by Susan Abulhawa. This book took you on an emotional journey through 18 true stories told by young adults who were, at the time, living displaced in tent encampments. Moving and enlightening.
I’m so excited to connect with Leadership Charlevoix County participants and mentors over the next 9 months, and to learn skills and gain tools that will help me support our community beyond the end of the program. I can’t wait to get to know you all!
Welcome to the LCC Class of 2027 Jean!
