Since 1953, Pillar Care Continuum has provided lifelong support for people with disabilities.

Ms. Kat and Ms. Shannon of Liberty Science Center showed Pillar Elementary students a hidden world of color! As part of the weekly “Light and Sound” series, students learned about the fluorescent colors revealed under a UV light.

A live scorpion was brought out to demonstrate how UV light can reveal colors not visible in normal light. Students then made their own crafts to glow under the UV light.

Working in a greenhouse to provide food for the community provides fulfillment, teaches vocational skills, and builds independence.

These experiences are invaluable to people with disabilities- a group that has historically faced limited access to employment opportunities.

Pillar High School's recent trip to LifeTown provided students with an educational experience outside the classroom! From navigating crosswalks to shopping at grocery stores, LifeTown allows students to learn life skills in a realistic setting. The therapeutic and sensory activities throughout the town give students a comfortable place to practice their independence.

As our strategic plan, Vision 2026, comes to a close, a new chapter begins to take shape.

The Pillar Care Board of Trustees and senior leadership team met for a retreat to begin developing the next strategic plan to guide Pillar Care through the coming years.

The next stages of planning will involve talking to families, community members, and staff members across Pillar Care programs to create a comprehensive and inclusive plan to best support individuals with disabilities.

Our last strategic plan was a major success and allowed us to achieve a number of milestones, including:
- Expanded our Durable Medical Equipment and Behavioral Health departments, increasing the capacity in which we're able to serve individuals with disabilities of all ages
- Implemented our Culture of Excellence and agency values across all programs
- Opened our first home for veterans with disabilities and an 11-unit affordable housing complex
- Strengthened our technological infrastructure with a new electronic health records system, workforce management system, and inter-department communication systems
- Reached an all-time school enrollment high of 170 students and provided each student a laptop through the Home Technology Access Program

As we look towards 2027 and beyond, we're committed to be 𝗗𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗯𝘆 𝗣𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲: 𝗥𝗮𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗮𝗿 𝗮𝘁 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗟𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹.

Volunteers of the Dove Seton Hall Learning Service team are spending time on Fridays this semester at Orange Day Program. Participants and volunteers had a blast playing baseball during their last session. Thank you to the incredible volunteers of Seton Hall for making an impact in the community!

Congratulations to Dawn Heinen, Preschool Teacher at Pillar Elementary School, for being selected as Pillar Care Employee of the Month!

Dawn has been teaching at Pillar Elementary for nine years. Through her dedicated work, she has become an outstanding example of the Pillars of Excellence.

Her Person-Centered Approach sets Pillar Elementary's youngest students up for success, with lesson plans tailored to each student's unique needs. She demonstrates Inclusion by building a classroom atmosphere that allows both students and staff to thrive, contribute, and develop their skills. Radiance can always be felt in Dawn's classroom, whether it's through morning yoga or afternoon singalongs.
