East Hampton Athletic Hall Of Fame 2019 Induction
The East Hampton Athletic Hall of Fame elected 2 individuals and a team to its 2019 class.
William J. Wilkie has been a long time Track and Field as well as Cross Country coach at East Hampton High School beginning in 1998. Bill has coached his teams to 14 league Cross Country championships, 15 league Track Championships, and the 2009 Girl's Cross Country Class SS championship. Bill has been named Shoreline Conference Coach of the Year 3 times, coached 26 individual athletes to state championships, and coached 5 relay teams to state championships. An estimated 30 former athletes have gone on to college to compete at the next level. Bill is also an assistant Track and Field coach at Eastern Connecticut State University.
Darin M. Aloia was a 4 year varsity Baseball player at East Hampton High School. Darin was an RBI machine for the Bellringers from 1997-2000, racking up 91 career RBI, to go along with 9 career home runs, and a .434 career batting average. His career also included 8 RBI in one game, and 12 RBI for a double header in his Sophomore year. Darin's senior season was the most impressive with a .528 batting average, 10 doubles, 3 triples, 6 home runs and 42 RBI. Some of Darin's honors included All Conference 1999 & 2000, along with All-State and team MVP in 2000.
The 1969 Senior League All-Star Baseball team (50th anniversary) won the Senior Little League State and New England Championships. The team was managed by Hall of Famer Andy Seamster. Other Hall of Famers Keith Bolles and Richie Hallberg were major contributors to the team that won 5 games to get through state tournament competition, with Richie Hallberg throwing a 4 hit shutout in the championship game. In the New England championships, East Hampton defeated the Rhode Island team in extra innings to advance to the East Regionals where East Hampton lost 2 very close games. Along with Seamster, the team was coached by Roger Clark and the remainder of the players were Darrell Bartlett, Robert Callahan, Bruce Clark, James Clark, Cal Cole, Dan Denski, Mark Denski, Joseph Dickerson, Rick Dobbins, Ron Repscher, Gerald Stano, and Ronnie Wall. The alternates were Howard Becker Jr., Stephen Manning, Art Moebius, and Michael Roark.
Bill, Darin, and the 1969 team will be inducted into the Hall of Fame on Friday evening November 1st at 6pm at the Blackledge Country Club in Hebron. Tickets are $45 and can be purchased by contacting Mike Vasquenza at 860-267-7405 or email at [email protected].
