At one point, Jen threw a frozen hamburger and it almost took Joe out. ❄️🎄
And honestly… that pretty much sums up our Brighter Christmas Distribution.
It was one of the coldest days of the year. Hams and pounds of hamburger were literally flying. Numbers were being yelled as cars pulled in faster than we could load them. Hands were frozen. Voices were hoarse. And we were all running on caffeine, adrenaline, and a whole lot of love!
This year, The Boundless Trailer served 33 local families — just shy of 175 individuals. Behind those numbers were weeks of planning, donation pickups, Giving Tree tags, late-night organizing, last-minute shopping, repacking baskets (more than once), and the quiet mental load that doesn’t shut off. It was exhausting — the deep kind — but it was also deeply meaningful.
What carries us through every year is gratitude. For the families who trust us. For the volunteers who show up. For the community that never fails to remind us that generosity multiplies when it’s shared.
We are so thankful for the businesses and organizations who partnered with us and helped make this possible:
Thank you to Frentress Bar & Grill, East Dubuque Daycare, Natural Nectar, and the East Dubuque Student Council - for hosting Giving Trees and rallying local support to fulfil our families requests.
Thank you, One Sound Meditation - for collecting monetary donations that covered supplies and last-minute wishlist needs
Thank you Toys for Tots — for keeping the toy pile stocked!
Thank you Elks Club in Galena — for providing food boxes for every family!
Thank you St. Mary’s Church & Parish Center — for opening your doors to your space for us to oppertare out of as well as hosting a giving tree!
And to the people who made the chaos work — lifting heavy boxes, loading cars in freezing temps, calling numbers, cracking jokes, dodging airborne pounds of hamburger, and serving with full hearts!
Joleen Reisen, Gail Johnston, Jersey Johnston, Jen Heim (iconic hamburger moment), Joe Heim (we’re glad you survived), Morgan Patters, Cody Johnston, Natalie Cavanaugh, and Little Echo (our smallest helper with the biggest heart).
This marked our 5th year leading Brighter Christmas. We’re incredibly grateful… and yes, very tired — the kind of tired that comes from carrying something that matters. The kind that reminds us leadership isn’t glamorous, but it’s sacred.
Thank you for trusting The Boundless Trailer. Thank you for believing in this work. And thank you for helping us make Christmas brighter — even on the coldest, busiest days of the year.
Now if you’ll excuse us… we’ll be thawing out, catching up on sleep, and keeping a safe distance from frozen pounds of hamburger!!❤️
