The East Brunswick Police Department mourns the tragic loss of a Philadelphia Police Officer who was killed in the line of duty early this morning.

We extend our deepest condolences to the fallen officer’s family, friends, fellow officers, and the entire Philadelphia Police Department during this incredibly difficult time.

Our thoughts and prayers are also with the second officer who was seriously injured in this tragic incident. We pray for his strength, healing, and a full recovery.

Today, we stand united with our brothers and sisters in law enforcement as we honor the sacrifice of a fallen officer and offer our unwavering support to those affected by this tragedy.

This October, the East Brunswick Police Department joins communities across the country in recognizing Breast Cancer Awareness Month and showing support for those affected by breast cancer.

Every day, more than 700 women in the United States are diagnosed with breast cancer. For them, their families, and their loved ones, the impact extends far beyond the month of October.

Early detection can make a difference. We encourage everyone to stay informed, get screened as recommended, and remind the people in their lives to do the same.

🎀 Throughout October, members of the East Brunswick Police Department will proudly wear pink ribbon pins on their uniforms as a visible show of support for those affected by breast cancer and in recognition of .

𝐄𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐁𝐫𝐮𝐧𝐬𝐰𝐢𝐜𝐤 𝐌𝐚𝐧 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐝 𝐀𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐌𝐨𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐕𝐞𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐥𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐩 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐆𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐆𝐮𝐧

On September 9, 2026, at approximately 5:24 p.m., a plainclothes East Brunswick Police Officer operating an unmarked police vehicle observed a black Mercedes being driven recklessly on Civic Center Drive.

The officer attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop as the Mercedes entered the Wyndmoor Apartments on Civic Center Drive. The driver, identified as Jose Luis Martinez Jr., 32, of East Brunswick, exited the vehicle, at which time the officer verbally identified himself as an East Brunswick Police Officer and ordered Martinez to stop.

Martinez disregarded the officer’s commands and continued walking toward his residence, stating, “You are not in uniform.” Despite repeated commands to stop, Martinez entered his apartment and remotely locked his vehicle.

Additional East Brunswick Police patrol officers and detectives responded to the scene. Officers made several attempts to communicate with Martinez and advised him that he was the subject of a motor vehicle stop and was required to provide his driving credentials. Martinez initially refused to exit his apartment and continued to remotely lock his vehicle during the encounter.

Martinez eventually exited the apartment and was placed under arrest for obstruction. During the investigation, officers developed additional suspicion that the vehicle contained contraband. Martinez declined to consent to a search of the vehicle.

Middlesex County Sheriff’s Officer Kevin Mastroserio and his K-9 partner, Jester, subsequently responded to the scene and conducted an open-air sniff of the exterior of the Mercedes. K-9 Jester provided a positive indication for the presence of narcotics.

East Brunswick Police detectives subsequently obtained a search warrant for the vehicle. On September 15, 2026, detectives executed the search warrant and recovered a loaded 9mm handgun. The fi***rm was determined to contain a Polymer80 frame and did not bear a serial number.

The handgun contained a 15-round large-capacity magazine loaded with four hollow-point rounds and ten full-metal-jacket rounds. An additional hollow-point round was located in the fi***rm’s chamber.

Chief Frank LoSacco commended the officers and detectives involved in the investigation, as well as Middlesex County Sheriff’s Officer Kevin Mastroserio and K-9 Jester, for their assistance.

“The swift actions and thorough investigative work of our officers, detectives, and our law enforcement partners led to the removal of another illegal fi***rm from the streets of East Brunswick,” Chief LoSacco said. “I commend everyone involved, including Officer Mastroserio and K-9 Jester, for their professionalism and teamwork throughout this investigation. This marks the second illegal fi***rm recovered by our officers during the month of September and demonstrates their continued commitment to keeping our community safe.”

As a result of the investigation, Martinez was charged with:
* Unlawful Possession of a Handgun – N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5(b)(1)
* Certain Persons Not to Have Weapons – N.J.S.A. 2C:39-7(b)(1)
* Possession of a Prohibited Weapon (Ghost Gun) – N.J.S.A. 2C:39-3(n)
* Possession of a Prohibited Weapon (Large-Capacity Magazine) – N.J.S.A. 2C:39-3(j)
* Possession of Prohibited Am******on (Hollow-Point Am******on) – N.J.S.A. 2C:39-3(f)

Martinez was taken into custody on September 18, 2026, processed, and lodged in the Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center.

These charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

𝗠𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗢𝗯𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗔𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗠𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗝𝘂𝘃𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝗙𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗛𝗶𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝗛𝗲𝗿 𝗛𝗼𝗺𝗲

An East Brunswick woman was arrested and charged with obstruction after detectives located her 17-year-old son hiding inside her residence following an extensive missing-person investigation.

On September 15, 2026, at approximately 7:47 p.m., the East Brunswick Police Department received a phone call from the father of a 17-year-old boy, who reported that his son was scheduled to be dropped off at his residence at approximately 6:00 p.m.

The juvenile's mother, Jennifer Buckley, reported that her son was not at her residence and that she was unable to locate him. Buckley reported that her son was upset and had stated that he did not want to go to his father's residence. She also expressed concerns that her son may be a danger to himself.

Based on the circumstances and concerns for the juvenile's welfare, he was entered into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database as a missing person.

The East Brunswick Police Department initiated an extensive effort to locate the juvenile. Patrol officers and other department personnel devoted significant resources to the search, while detectives conducted a follow-up investigation in the days that followed.

During the investigation, detectives identified several discrepancies in the information they had obtained and responded to Buckley's residence to conduct further investigation. Detectives subsequently searched the residence and located the juvenile hiding inside a crawl space in the basement.

The investigation determined that the juvenile had remained at the residence while he was reported missing and that Buckley had assisted him in concealing his whereabouts from law enforcement. Buckley was subsequently arrested and charged with Obstructing the Administration of Law, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:29-1A.

"Whenever a juvenile is reported missing, particularly when there are concerns for that child's safety, our officers take the report seriously and commit the resources necessary to locate them," said East Brunswick Police Chief Frank LoSacco. "I commend the patrol officers, detectives, and other personnel who worked diligently to locate this juvenile and ensure his safety. Providing false or misleading information to law enforcement undermines those efforts and unnecessarily diverts officers and resources away from members of our community who may need immediate police assistance."

The charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

𝐍𝐞𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐤 𝐌𝐚𝐧 𝐀𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐅𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐧 𝐕𝐞𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐥𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐠𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐅𝐨𝐨𝐭 𝐏𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐮𝐢𝐭

On September 13, 2026, at approximately 2:43 p.m., East Brunswick Police Department officers responded to the area of Highway 18 South and Eggers Street for a report of a disabled motor vehicle.

Prior to officers' arrival, Good Samaritans assisted the operator of the disabled vehicle in moving to a safe location off the roadway. Upon officers' arrival, the male operator immediately fled the area on foot. Multiple officers responded to the area and began searching for the suspect.

During the investigation, officers contacted the registered owner of the disabled vehicle, who confirmed that the vehicle had been stolen.

Shortly thereafter, a resident on University Road, near the location of the initial incident, flagged down an East Brunswick Police officer. The resident reported that a male matching the fleeing suspect's description had entered a vehicle parked in the resident's driveway. When confronted by the resident, the suspect fled the area after taking currency from the vehicle's center console.

Officers continued to saturate the surrounding area and subsequently located a male matching the suspect's description walking behind the Lake Avenue Apartments. Officers gave the suspect commands to stop; however, he refused to comply and fled eastbound on foot toward Renee Road. Following a brief foot pursuit, officers apprehended the male and placed him under arrest without further incident.

Chief Frank LoSacco commended the officers involved in the response, stating, "This incident demonstrates the persistence and coordinated response of our officers. What began as a call for a disabled vehicle quickly developed into an investigation involving a stolen vehicle, an additional crime against one of our residents, and a fleeing suspect. Our officers worked together to quickly locate and apprehend the suspect while protecting the surrounding community. I commend everyone involved for their professionalism and determination."

Officers identified the suspect as Veelique Farrior-Harris, 23, of Newark, NJ.

Farrior-Harris was charged with:
• Unlawful Taking of a Means of Conveyance – N.J.S.A. 2C:20-10.2(a)
• Obstructing Administration of Law or Other Governmental Function – N.J.S.A. 2C:29-1(a)
• Resisting Arrest by Flight – N.J.S.A. 2C:29-2(a)(2)
• Burglary – N.J.S.A. 2C:18-2(a)(1)

Farrior-Harris was also found to have active warrants issued by the Bergen County Sheriff's Office, Irvington Municipal Court, and Newark Municipal Court. He was subsequently lodged in the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Facility.

All charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Twenty five years ago our lives and nation became forever changed. May we Never Forget the 2,977 victims, 343 FDNY firefighters, 23 NYPD Officers, and 37 Port Authority Police Officers as well as the courage and sacrifice of those who ran towards danger as we continue to carry their memory.

Twenty-five years ago, on September 11, 2001, our nation was forever changed.

Today, the East Brunswick Police Department joins communities across the country in remembering the nearly 3,000 lives lost in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. We honor the innocent victims, the first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice, and all those whose lives were forever affected by that day.

In the aftermath of the attacks, a contingent of East Brunswick Police Officers responded to New York City to assist with recovery efforts at Ground Zero. The photograph accompanying this post captures some of those officers who answered the call during one of the darkest moments in our nation’s history.

Twenty-five years later, we remember their service and the extraordinary courage and sacrifice demonstrated by first responders and ordinary citizens alike. We also remember the many responders who have since suffered or lost their lives from illnesses related to their work at Ground Zero.

May we never forget those we lost, those who ran toward danger to help others, and the spirit of unity that brought our nation together.

On September 9, 2026, at approximately 11:38 p.m., East Brunswick Police Department Patrolmen Edward Mironski and Michael Miszkiewicz observed an occupied motor vehicle in the parking lot of Studio 6, located at 246 Highway 18.

After observing violations, officers made contact with the vehicle's occupants. During the investigation, officers developed reasonable suspicion and requested assistance from a narcotics-detection K-9.

Middlesex County Sheriff's Officer Kevin Mastroserio responded with his K-9 partner, Jester. Following a positive indication by K-9 Jester, officers conducted a search of the vehicle. The search resulted in the recovery of a loaded G***k 43 handgun, a large-capacity drum magazine, approximately one-half pound of suspected ma*****na, a digital scale, and packaging materials consistent with the distribution of controlled dangerous substances.

Edwin Rojas, a 32-year-old male from New Brunswick, NJ, and Kevin Rodriguez, a 24-year-old male from Bordentown, NJ, were arrested and charged with offenses including:

• Unlawful Possession of a Handgun, N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5(b)(1)
• Possession of a Fi***rm During a Controlled Dangerous Substance Offense, N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4.1(a)
• Certain Persons Not to Have Weapons, N.J.S.A. 2C:39-7(b)(1)
• Distribution/Possession with Intent to Distribute Ma*****na, N.J.S.A. 2C:35-5(b)(11)
• Possession of Ma*****na, N.J.S.A. 2C:35-10(a)(3)
• Possession of a Large-Capacity Am******on Magazine, N.J.S.A. 2C:39-3(j)

All charges were placed on warrants, and both defendants were transported to the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Center pending further court proceedings.

A third occupant of the vehicle, Kason Cole, a 21-year-old male from Edison, NJ, was found to have an outstanding warrant issued by the Township of Woodbridge. Cole was taken into custody and subsequently turned over to the Woodbridge Police Department.

Chief of Police Frank LoSacco commended the officers for their proactive police work.

“Patrolmen Mironski and Miszkiewicz demonstrated the type of proactive policing that plays an important role in keeping our community safe,” Chief LoSacco said. “Their observations and investigation resulted in the removal of a loaded handgun, a large-capacity magazine, and a significant quantity of suspected ma*****na from our community. I commend these officers, as well as the K-9 team that assisted them, for their professionalism and attention to detail.”

The East Brunswick Police Department continues to experience a significant demand for police services at the Studio 6 and Motel 6 properties. The frequency and nature of calls for service at these locations require a substantial commitment of patrol and investigative resources that would otherwise be available to respond to incidents and provide proactive policing throughout the Township.

Since January 1, 2026, the East Brunswick Police Department has responded to the Studio 6 and Motel 6 properties multiple times each day, necessitating thousands of dedicated hours of police personnel time. During that period, officers have taken more than 750 police reports involving these properties. Additionally, Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) statistics show that more than 2,500 police, fire, and emergency medical services resources have been dispatched to incidents at these locations in 2026.

“Our officers have responded to these properties with concerning frequency for incidents involving criminal activity and other calls requiring police intervention,” Chief LoSacco said. “These repeated calls place a strain on police resources and remain a public safety concern. We will continue to use proactive enforcement and investigative efforts to address criminal activity occurring at these locations and throughout East Brunswick.”

NJ STATE PBA BLASTS THE POLITICS BEHIND POLICE FURLOUGHS

New Jersey State PBA President Peter Andreyev addressed the council during public comment, speaking on behalf of PBA Local 75.

"Ten Edison police officers have been furloughed," Andreyev said. "We are now being told that the number could grow substantially if this budget is not passed. These are not unnecessary positions or expendable employees. They are police officers hired and trained and assigned to protect the residents of Edison."

"A police department cannot be turned on and off like a light switch," Andreyev said. "Calls for service will continue, emergencies will continue, crime will not wait for the council to resolve its differences."

Andreyev said the State PBA asked the council to approve funding to return all furloughed officers to duty, provide the local union with complete information on any proposed additional furloughs, and meet promptly with the local to negotiate the effects of any staffing actions.

"No family should be left wondering whether a paycheck is coming, and no Edison resident should have to wonder whether enough officers will be available to answer their 911 emergency call," Andreyev said.

The Edison Town Council passed the temporary emergency appropriations on Thursday night restoring the officers to work.

The State PBA is urging the council to vote for the regular 2026 municipal budget scheduled for the next regular council meeting, which will be held on Aug. 3.
