Did you know some orchids grow wild in Massachusetts? Introducing: pink lady’s slipper orchid found here on camp! The orchid has a symbiotic relationship with fungi in the soil which is essential for its survival, transplant rate is near zero and it is actually illegal in MA to pick these beautiful flowers. They take about an average of 10 years to bloom so this is the first time we are seeing it in recent years on camp!

Spotted on camp this morning: a red-shouldered hawk! Found in tall woods and near water which makes the forests of CFAD a perfect home. These forest hawks hunt prey ranging from mice to frogs and snakes.
