💙⚽️ EBYSA would like to take a moment to highlight the importance of our youth referees.
In the Spring, our Festival of Future Stars program (U8 for boys and girls) and our Instructional program (children in Pre-K and K) rely on youth referees to help the program run effectively. Without them, we as an organization could not function to give players an opportunity to learn game skills, cooperate together on a team, and have fun. We are grateful for their contribution!
Please be mindful that these referees are children themselves, and are learning how to call elements of the game fairly. Their first priority is safety, as well as explaining to these young players how to correct any actions that could be considered a foul and/or dangerous play. Will they get everything 100% correct? Of course not, but even adult, experienced referees feel similarly challenged.
We are asking coaches, parents, and spectators on the sidelines to behave appropriately and calmly during games -- any behavior that could be considered inappropriate, aggressive, or puts our referees in an uneasy situation will not be tolerated. Reminder: these children are between the ages of 4 and 8, and none of them are playing professionally in the next couple years. If you feel your emotions getting the best of you, we recommend you take a deep breath, maybe distance yourself from the pitch, and say "it's just a game."
Thank you for taking the time to read our PSA. We are committed to making our Spring programs one focused on development, positivity, enthusiasm, and enjoyment!
