Brewton Amateur Radio Union This page is for the Brewton Amateur Radio Union to help promote Amateur Radio in the area as to help The original repeater first became operational in 1976.

WB4ARU is the club call of the Brewton Amateur Radio Union (BARU) and was the original call of Jimmy Godwin who was the real founder of the BARU. Jimmy was a police officer on the Brewton Alabama Police Department and was the main driving force behind forming a club and building a repeater. Tragically, Jimmy died of an accident while he and his wife were erecting his tower in 1976. Though he was t

he main character in securing the tower sites, a telephone line link between the transmitter and receiver site with the Escambia County Commission paying the cost of the line, and acquiring the equipment from which the repeater was constructed, he was killed before the repeater became operational. The callsign was WR4BAE, with Johnny Miller, K4VMT as trustee, followed by Scott Hillman, WA4TYH, then Leroy Weaver, WD4SBV. In 2004, after some years of little use, the club and repeater was updated and reorganized. This was done by Larry N4CBS, Leon N4RTT, Scott KT4CW(SK), Franklin W4FDS, and Johnny K4VMT. The repeater still on it's original frequency of 146.97-600. The BARU repeater is completely open with 103.5 PL tone and all licensed HAMs, are more than welcome to use it. This repeater is a Yaesu Fusion DR2 repeater operating in AMS, supporting both FM and digital C4FM modes. As of present 27 March 2021, the club officers are as follows:
