I introduced Senate Bill 982, which establishes clear statewide standards for bullying and cyberbullying prevention, reporting, and response in K–12 public schools.

The bill requires school entities to adopt policies prohibiting bullying, implement confidential reporting procedures, designate a bullying response coordinator, provide age-appropriate instruction, and train staff regularly.

It also leverages the Safe2Say Program for reporting and oversight, while protecting student privacy and constitutional rights.

It will be reviewed by the Chair of the Education Committee (hopefully soon), but we still need to make the phone calls, send the letters and keep signing and sharing the petition! Jonny's Law is proposed Pennsylvania Senate Bill 982 (SB 982), sponsored by Senator Doug Mastriano, that seeks to establish statewide standards for bullying and cyberbullying prevention, reporting, and response in K-12 public schools, inspired by the death of Jonny Tomasello. The bill aims to enforce stricter compliance and rules for school officials regarding bullying, with potential civil or criminal charges for non-compliance, and includes a 24-hour notification requirement to parents.
What is Jonny's Law?

Legislation's Goal:
To prevent similar tragedies to the death of Jonny Tomasello, a student from East Berlin.

Purpose:
To establish clear statewide standards for bullying and cyberbullying prevention, reporting, and response within Pennsylvania's K-12 public schools.

Key Components:
Mandates that schools have clear policies and programs for handling bullying.
Imposes strict compliance and rules on school officials.

Today is Jonny’s birthday. He would have been 17. I struggled all day thinking of how I could post something that would honor his memory. It’s so difficult to find the right words sometimes, because I want them to be meaningful, but also offer hope to others.

I went to grab the mail, just like any other day, and inside was a large envelope, from The White House. I of course thought it was a generic mailer, but when I opened it, I was actually shocked. Inside, was a letter from The President and First Lady. TO ME. I must have read it five times before it sunk in.

Jonny would have loved this. He held a deep regard and respect for the Office of The President (regardless of who it was) and I could hear his voice saying “mom!!! This is so cool!!). Having this arrive on his birthday was a true gift.

I get it, I know that politics is so polarizing right now, but I ask that no one makes a political comment here. You all know how hard we are working to bring together both sides of the aisle to create change for our children, and this is a big deal for us.

Happy Heavenly Birthday my beautiful, sweet boy. Make a wish 💚

Good Morning everyone! I know we’ve been publicly quiet for a while, but we have been working behind the scenes for substantial change in the schools across PA!

Today, we will have a booth at the Harrisburg Comic con at the Farm Show Complex to obtain signatures for our change.org petition, that will encourage the Senators across the State to pass Jonny’s Law when it is presented.
