Hurricane Helene taught us a lot. Where partnerships were strong. Where coordination gaps cost time. How much recovery work continues long after the storm itself.

In response, we developed three workshops for the people who lead, organize, and serve here: nonprofit staff, faith communities, local government, business partners, and community members. Each one focuses on a different stage of the disaster cycle: before, during, and after.

Attend one. Attend two. Attend all three.
🟢Leading Through Disaster | June 30, 2026
🟢From Preparedness to Action | July 29, 2026
🟢Recovery, Resilience, and Healing | August 25, 2026

All workshops run from 9 a.m. to noon, with doors opening at 8:30 a.m. Coffee and light snacks will be available.

Exciting news for Pickens County! 🎉

United Way of Pickens County has been awarded a $16,000 HERO grant from the Duke Energy Foundation, and we could not be more grateful.

This funding means we can reach our older neighbors before the next disaster strikes, the seniors who live alone or rely on medical equipment and have the most to lose when a storm hits. We'll work with them one on one to build personalized emergency plans and put resources and education in place ahead of time, so help is already there when severe weather comes.

"We are incredibly grateful to receive the Duke Energy Foundation HERO grant," said president Julie Capaldi. "This funding will directly enhance the safety and resilience of Pickens County's most vulnerable older adults."

A heartfelt thank you to the Duke Energy Foundation for helping us protect the people who need it most. 💙

United is the Way.

A sincere thank you to the City of Liberty for hosting its very first workplace campaign with us this week.

Our team members Jerri Davis and Jeremy Price joined City staff for a Lunch & Learn to talk through the work happening across Pickens County, from Camp iRock and Preschool Pages to Free File and disaster response, and the programs supporting education, financial security, and mental well-being for local children and families.

In a single afternoon, City staff came together to raise $2,000 toward their $2,500 goal. For a first-year campaign, that kind of generosity says a great deal about this wonderful team and their commitment to the community they serve.

We are especially grateful to Mayor Andrea Wagner, Katie Sizemore, and Ciera Wilson for organizing the campaign. Thank you, City of Liberty!

Curiosity looked a lot like a six-foot python this week at Camp iRock. 🐍
Our campers got an up-close, hands-on visit from Scaly Adventures , and the room was equal parts wide eyes and brave hands reaching out to touch scales for the very first time. But the snakes were really just the hook. The heart of the visit was a conversation about courage, purpose, and the kind of choices that help young people thrive... topics like resilience, kindness, and standing up to bullying.

That message fits right in with what Camp iRock is all about. Every summer, we use reading, relationships, and experiences like this one to help our students see what's possible for their lives.

A big thank you to Scaly Adventures for bringing both the wow and the wisdom to our campers. Days like this stick with kids long after summer ends.

This past Thursday, we had our Family Night event! It was a wonderful evening with our families and friends at all three sites! We started the night with pizza and songs/dances from each grade that they have been working very hard on. Then, students were able to talk with their teachers and Misters, show off their hard work, and pick out books to take home with them. Thanks to everyone who came out! 📚📖🥳

Here is a glimpse into one of our Camp iRock sites and what makes it so amazing! The students’ love for learning and the staff’s love for teaching is so evident each day. Stay tuned for more content related to Camp iRock! 📚📖🧡

Meet two of the smiling faces behind Camp iRock this summer! 🌟

Sabrina is back with us for another year, this time as a Daniel High intern who already knows how camp runs. Nicole is joining the team for the first time, a Clemson student spending the summer helping young readers find their footing.

We caught them today doing the behind-the-scenes work that makes camp possible, organizing and sorting the books our campers will dig into all summer long. 📚

Be sure to keep an eye on our stories! Nicole is taking over our Instagram in the coming weeks to show you camp from the inside.

Hurricane Helene reminded Pickens County of something we already knew. When disaster strikes, neighbors take care of neighbors.

United Way of Pickens County, in partnership with Pickens County Emergency Management, is launching the first Pickens County Community Emergency Response Team cohort this June. The free training equips everyday residents to take care of their households and their neighbors in the critical hours after a major disaster, when professional responders may not reach every neighborhood right away.

Training covers emergency preparedness, fire safety, disaster medical operations, light search and rescue, team organization, and more.

Seven sessions. June 16 through July 9. Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

Applications close June 11. Applicants will also complete two short FEMA online courses and a background check before training begins.

This is real training for real emergencies. Pickens County needs people who are ready. Are you one of them?
