Responsive Call to Worship

Welcome, all who enter this holy place. Welcome, all who come to be in God’s presence
We have come in response to the call of Christ. We have come to take up the work which is offered to us.
Welcome, you who come to take up the mantle of discipleship. Welcome, you who would receive and share the love of Christ.
Thanks be to God for Jesus Christ. In him are honor and glory, now and forevermore.

Hymn I Want to Walk as a Child of the Light #206

*Unison Prayer of Confession (unison)

Forgiving God, we confess that we speak words of peace, but our deeds bring division. Our lips honor you, but our hearts are far from you. We are ready to trust you when life is peaceful and prosperous, but when the storms of life come upon us, we settle for and seek the security in the gods of power, money and prestige. Forgive us and restore us, good Lord, that we may be your faithful people and proclaim once again that you are our God, full of mercy and compassion; for the sake of Christ our Lord. AMEN.

Assurance of Pardon

Gloria Patri (Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost)
Passing the Peace
New Members – Doug and Joette Orcutt
Peace be with you! And also with you!

Proclaiming the Word
Psalter: Psalm 13
How long, O LORD? Will you forget me forever?
How long will you hide your face from me?

How long must I bear pain in my soul,
and have sorrow in my heart all day long?
How long shall my enemy be exalted over me?

Consider and answer me, O LORD my God!
Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep the sleep of death,

and my enemy will say, ‘I have prevailed’;
my foes will rejoice because I am shaken.

But I trusted in your steadfast love;
my heart shall rejoice in your salvation.

I will sing to the LORD,
because he has dealt bountifully with me.

Opening Prayer

Responsive Call to Worship

Sometimes we get down; we wonder if we will ever feel happy again.

We need something to lift us up.

That’s it! Jesus reminds us of God’s love!

His love surpasses all our troubles!

We are forgiven and made new in Jesus Christ.

He reaches out and lifts us up! ALLELUIA!

Hymn Lead on, O King Eternal #580

*Unison Prayer of Confession (unison)

Forgiving God, we confess that we are more ready to complain than to praise, to see problems rather than possibilities. We are unwilling to pay the cost of discipleship. We seek the cheap grace of forgiveness without repentance and discipleship without discipline, rather than the costly grace that can only be found by giving our lives without regard to consequences. Forgive us, restore us, redeem us, and set our feet once again on the path of discipleship; for the sake of Christ our Lord. AMEN.

Assurance of Pardon

Proclaiming the Word
Psalter: Psalm 86
Bend down, O LORD, and hear my prayer; answer me, for I need your help. Protect me, for I am devoted to you.
Save me, for I serve you and trust you. You are my God.

Be merciful to me, O Lord, for I am calling on you constantly. Give me happiness, O Lord, for I give myself to you.

O Lord, you are so good, so ready to forgive, so full of unfailing love for all who ask for your help.

Listen closely to my prayer, O LORD; hear my urgent cry. I will call to you whenever I’m in trouble, and you will answer me.

All the nations you made will come and bow before you, Lord; they will praise your holy name.

For you are great and perform wonderful deeds.
You alone are God.

Look down and have mercy on me. Give your strength to your servant; save me, the son of your servant.

Send me a sign of your favor. Then those who hate me will be put to shame, for you, O LORD, help and comfort me.

Responsive Call to Worship

We gather to celebrate and joyfully sing to our God!
Together, let us share our praises and thankfulness.
Come, let us enter into this sacred space with praise.
You O God, are the Holy God always and forever!
You are the Eternal One from whom all things come.
Come, let us enter into this sacred space with thanks.
O God, we are your children, created by and with your love.
Come, let us enter into this sacred space with joy and delight. Amen.

Hymn God of Grace and God of Glory #577

*Unison Prayer of Confession (unison)

Forgiving god, you know how we are. We say that we will take time to refresh our spirits and our souls and then we quickly crowd our lives with activities to the point of exhaustion. We turn to you for feeding and nurture, asking you to give us something to sustain us through our times. We even are willing to tell you what we have, but when we look closely, we discover that we bring so little to you. Take what we have, our gifts and our needs. Heal and forgive us when we boldly disobey your word. Remind us that you have given to us all that we need to serve you in this world. The world abounds with your miracles of love and hope. Open our eyes to see them and our hearts to know that these are from you and not of our own making. Heal and restore us to your everlasting love. In Jesus’ Name, we pray. AMEN.

Passing the Peace
Peace be with you! And also with you!

Proclaiming the Word
Psalter: Psalm 116
I love the LORD because he hears my voice and my prayer for mercy. Because he bends down to listen, I will pray as long as I have breath!

Death wrapped its ropes around me; the terrors of the grave overtook me. I saw only trouble and sorrow.
Then I called on the name of the LORD: “Please, LORD, save me!”

How kind the LORD is! How good he is! So merciful, this God of ours! The LORD protects those of childlike faith;
I was facing death, and he saved me.

Let my soul be at rest again, for the LORD has been good to me.

He has saved me from death, my eyes from tears,
my feet from stumbling.

And so, I walk in the LORD’s presence as I live here on earth!

I believed in you, so I said, “I am deeply troubled, LORD.”
In my anxiety I cried out to you, “These people are all liars!”

What can I offer the LORD for all he has done for me?
I will lift up the cup of salvation and praise the LORD’s name for saving me.

Rejoice in the Holy One! God loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of God’s steadfast love.

*Unison Prayer of Confession (unison)

Compassionate Christ, we yearn for that mysterious gift
of peace. We long for healing and wholeness, for peace and comfort. But the gift all too often seems elusive, or even absent. Touch our hearts and heal our weary souls.
Bless our wounds, that we may bless others in need of your love. Soothe our fears with courage, that we may be strong enough to answer your call. Raise us into new life with your miraculous grace, that we may be blessings of miraculous grace in your world. In the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.

Proclaiming the Word
Psalter: Psalm 33
Let the godly sing for joy to the LORD;
it is fitting for the pure to praise him.

Praise the LORD with melodies on the lyre;
make music for him on the ten-stringed harp.

Sing a new song of praise to him;
play skillfully on the harp, and sing with joy.

For the word of the LORD holds true, and we can trust everything he does. He loves whatever is just and good;
the unfailing love of the LORD fills the earth.

The LORD merely spoke, and the heavens were created.
He breathed the word, and all the stars were born.

He assigned the sea its boundaries
and locked the oceans in vast reservoirs.

For when he spoke, the world began!
It appeared at his command.

What joy for the nation whose God is the LORD,
whose people he has chosen as his inheritance.
