From Tulare County Resource Management Agency:
“A major milestone has been reached for the Allensworth community. On March 11, 2026, the Tulare County Planning Commission unanimously recommended approval of the Allensworth Community Plan Update and its environmental review, marking a significant step forward in a community-driven effort years in the making. The plan then went before the Tulare County Board of Supervisors for final consideration and was fully approved on March 31, 2026.

The Yokuts people have lived throughout California’s Central Valley for thousands of years, shaping and caring for its rivers, grasslands, and oak woodlands. The very word Yokuts means “people,” a reminder that humanity and the land are inseparable.

Many of SRT’s protected places—from the Tule River to Dry Creek—are part of the Yokuts’ ancestral homeland. Their stewardship, knowledge, and cultural practices continue to inspire modern conservation efforts throughout the Valley.

The Yokuts teach us this important lesson: protecting the land is an act of remembering, honoring, and continuing what has always been sacred.
