Allensworth welcomes October!

Temperature reached 96 degrees but fresh food and flowers from our AAES garden and a little time together in the garden was the best way to spend the day.

Today, the AAES farm team spent the day harvesting fresh produce for the community produce stand, along with putting together little bouquets using flowers grown right here in the garden.

This week in Allensworth, we welcomed funders and foundation partners for a tour of our projects, ongoing work, and proposed projects. We shared a little of what we’re building and the vision we hold for our community.

We were also grateful to share a meal prepared by Cristel of Quererte, La cocina del pueblo, a woman-led business that brings so much care and goodness to the table.
💚
Cristel’s approach is simple and deeply meaningful. She looks at what’s growing and available in the garden and lets those ingredients guide the menu. For this meal, she used produce from our food garden to create a menu that honored the hands that worked the land.

From our farm team who nurtured the garden to Cristel who turned that harvest into a delicious meal, this was a beautiful reminder of what community-rooted food systems can make possible.

We’re grateful for the land, the labor of our farm team & community, the food, and everyone who came together to enjoy it.

Allensworth Progressive Association and Union of Concerned Scientists have released a new mini-documentary, "The Town that Chose to Thrive," about the community of Allensworth in the Central Valley, California. Allensworth is building a resilient, self-determined future through sustainable land management and agricultural practices. As told through community voices, the video discusses the town's history and social and environmental injustices, outlines how Allensworth is practicing regenerative agriculture and land stewardship principles to create a sustainable local economy, and looks towards a future where other communities adopt similar food and energy sovereignty systems.
