Classic Yacht Restoration Guild President Rick Carrion, left, recently presented Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum President Kristen Greenaway, right, with a $1,500 donation from CYRG to CBMM.

The funds represent proceeds from the 2018 Elf Classic Yacht Race, which took place on the Miles River at CBMM on Sept. 29. The donation benefits the children and adults served by CBMM’s education, restoration, and exhibition programs.

The CYRG was founded in 1982 to foster the traditions of maritime culture and boatbuilding, particularly those associated with the northeast United States and Chesapeake Bay. The CYRG is currently campaigning the oldest classic yacht still racing in America—the 1888 Elf, as seen in the background—a 30-foot class wooden sailing yacht built by George F. Lawley & Sons in Boston, Mass., which now sails the Chesapeake Bay. For more information, visit cbmm.org or cyrg.org.

Luxury watchmaker Panerai has confirmed rumours that it will cease its classic regatta sponsorship in 2019. A Heads Up: The planned May 12 Elf Classic Yacht Race has been postponed. The Classic Yacht Restoration Guild, the race's organizers, will be restructuring and rescheduling the race to a later date in the year. Check with us for any updates.
