We praise the Lord for our wonderful sisters in Christ who joyfully prepared and served a delicious Father’s Day Breakfast this morning!

Their servant hearts beautifully reflect the love of our Savior, and we are so thankful for the way they blessed our church family. God is truly at work among us at Eakly FBC—may His name be glorified!

We truly apologize for the sound difficulties this morning—it seems we may have overlooked plugging in a necessary piece of equipment.

We apologize that the music and voices did not come through clearly, but we praise the Lord that His presence and His Word are not dependent on our equipment, and we trust He still spoke to hearts in a powerful way.

What a wonderful blessing from the Lord it is to be able to remodel our sanctuary!

We give all glory to God for His faithful provision and abundant grace. Thank you, dear brothers and sisters, for your willing hearts and helping hands as we labor together for His glory.

May the Lord richly bless every sacrifice and strengthen us as we prepare this space to worship and exalt His name. To God be the glory!

The Father of Faith— Abraham’s Tests Point Us to the Perfect Father

Genesis 22:1-12

Bro. Manny Gonzalez

Supplemental Scripture: Gal 3:7–29 • Gen 15:6 • Rom 4 & 8:32 • John 15:13–15 • (Full list in sermon notes)

THREE KEY MOVEMENTS

I. THE FATHER OF PROMISE AND FAITH

God sovereignly chose Abram from pagan Ur. Abraham believed God’s impossible promise of descendants “as numerous as the stars,” and it was counted to him as righteousness (Gen 15:6). Paul declares that the true offspring of Abraham is Christ, and all who trust in Jesus are Abraham’s children and heirs according to promise (Gal 3:7–9, 16, 29; 2 Cor 1:20). Fathers: Your greatest work is to believe God’s promises and point your children to Jesus.

II. THE FATHER WHO LEARNED TO TRUST GOD’S PROTECTION & PROVISION

Abraham sometimes failed in fear and self-protection (Gen 12:10–20; 20). Yet he showed courage protecting family (Gen 14) and interceded for S***m (Gen 18:22–33). God remained faithful. True fatherhood trusts God’s covenant more than human schemes, control, or deception. Be a man of integrity, hospitality (Heb 13:2), and prayerful intercession for your family and others.

III. THE TESTED FATHER WHO OBEYED TO THE UTTERMOST

After twelve tests, the greatest came on Mount Moriah: “Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love… and offer him” (Gen 22:1–12). Abraham obeyed in faith, declaring “God will provide for Himself the lamb” (v.8). God provided a ram. This points to the perfect Father who did not spare His own Son but gave Him up for us all (Rom 8:32). Abraham is called the friend of God (James 2:23); Jesus calls believers His friends (John 15:13–15).

THE TWELVE TESTS OF ABRAHAM — PERSONAL CHECKPOINTS FOR THIS WEEK

Prayerfully examine your heart. These questions are meant to conform you more to Christ, not condemn you.

Gen 12:1–7 — Do I trust God with my future and daily decisions?
Gen 13:8–13 — Do I trust God even when treated unfairly?
Gen 14:13–18 — Does my faithfulness to others reflect trust in God?
Gen 14:17–24 — Do I give God all the honor He deserves?
Gen 15:1–6 — Do I regularly reaffirm my trust in God’s promises?
Gen 15:7–11 — Do I keep trusting God in seasons of waiting?
Gen 17:9–27 — Do I obey God even when I don’t fully understand?
Gen 18:1–8 — Do I practice genuine hospitality and openness?
Gen 18:22–33 — Do I care for people even when I disagree with their sin?
Gen 20:1–17 — When I sin, do I confess and make restitution?
Gen 21:22–34 — Am I a man of integrity whose word can be trusted?
Gen 22:1–12 — Is there anything I have not surrendered to God?

APPLICATIONS & CALL TO SURRENDER

• Surrender your fatherhood, fears, failures, and family to the perfect Father who gave His only Son for you (Rom 8:32). • Trust God’s covenant faithfulness and protection rather than your own schemes, control, money, or self-protection. • Lead your family spiritually this week: open the Bible with your children, pray with your wife, and repent where you have failed. • Point the next generation to Jesus Christ — the true and better Seed of Abraham, the only way to the Father, and the fulfillment of every promise.

KEY TAKE AWAY

We do not become the fathers God calls us to be by trying harder in our own strength. We become those fathers only by faith in Christ—the true Seed of Abraham—and by surrendering daily to God the Father.

If the Lord has spoken to you today—whether you need to surrender your heart to Christ for the first time or surrender your family and fatherhood afresh—respond in faith. The same God who called Abraham is calling you. The same God who provided the ram has provided the Lamb of God.

Happy Father’s Day — May the God of Abraham bless you and make you a blessing.
