Small Steps in Speech The mission of SSIS is to help children with speech and/or language disorders take the steps needed to be better communicators.

This is achieved through grants and donations to service providers and qualifying charitable organizations.

We are beyond grateful for the speech therapists who work so hard to provide the best possible treatment for our grant recipients and the most important role they play in the child's communication journey.

"...One of the most difficult parts of being a professional is knowing what research and best practice suggests, and making it fit with the reality of the world. For many families, time and money are the 2 most precious resources and oftentimes major roadblocks for getting appropriate therapy for their child. Thanks to your grant, I was able to design and implement a treatment program for one of the children on my caseload that I had wanted to implement for almost a year without the family having to choose between necessities...I have seen the growth not only in his actual speech skills, but also in his self confidence as he attempts to share more ideas and stories than ever before. This grant provided the needed boost for this child in where he is in his Apraxia journey, and inspired me as a clinician to continue to think outside the box when it comes to meeting the needs of clients and families as they navigate best practice within the confines of reality."

Oh my goodness, thank you! We are deeply touched by the many gifts made in honor of Marc Small’s heavenly birthday. Your thoughtful generosity will help support children with speech and language needs, making a meaningful and lasting difference in their young lives.

At the same time, we are so grateful for your kindness in keeping Marc’s memory alive. While we miss Marc every day, knowing that his life continues to inspire kindness and support for others brings comfort, especially on these special days.

We are always so happy to hear the impact a Small Steps in Speech grant has had on a recipient. We are proud of Liam, one of our 2025 grant recipients, and know there are bright things in his future. Thank you to Team 4 Kids Pediatric Therapy for guiding Liam on his communication journey!

Liam's mom says: "Our family is incredibly grateful for the Small Steps in Speech grant. Finding financial assistance for speech therapy was challenging ... The Small Steps in Speech grant was one of the few opportunities available to us and helped make speech therapy accessible for our son; Services we otherwise would not have been able to provide for him.
Since starting therapy at TEAM 4 Kids, we have seen progress in our son’s communication skills. He is using more words and expressing himself a little more clearly. Seeing him gain the ability to communicate his wants, needs, and thoughts has been amazing for our family.
TEAM 4 Kids genuinely cares about our son’s success and has created a positive, encouraging environment where he can learn and grow. The progress he has made has given our family hope and confidence for his future."
