Last week, the ERC team went out to complete our monthly water quality monitoring under River Watch of Colorado. These monthly tests of our streams monitor metals, nutrients, pH levels, dissolved oxygen, and more. It’s our goal to monitor the health of our waters through these tests for the sake of both wildlife and humans so that everyone can keep enjoying all the benfits our watershed has to offer! Last week, big news came to us on the Western Slope that is definitely worth celebrating! The federal government has released $40 million in federal funding to go toward 's purchase of the powerful water rights tied to the Shoshone Power Plant on the Colorado River. These water rights are particularly important because of their seniority; the holder receives their full allocation of water even when the region faces water shortage issues. The Colorado River District will ensure this water stays in the river, providing more reliable flow downstream. Though the transfer of rights still needs to be finalized in water court, this is a major step forward for Western Slope communities. Read more about this through the article linked in our bio.

On Tuesday, Eagle River Coalition and the USFS led a shareholder site meeting to gain feedback from the OHV community regarding the Wearyman Road restoration project. Wearyman is a historic route connecting Red Cliff to Camp Hale. This project aims to reduce sediment flow in Wearyman Creek while maintaining access to this high-quality recreational resource. ERC has contracted RESPEC LLC for design and construction oversight.

Rivers connect all of us — from recreation and wildlife to clean water and community identity.
That’s why the Eagle River Coalition and Eagle River Fund are bringing the community together for a special screening of “The River,” a documentary about the Colorado River and the people who rely on it.
Your suggested $10 donation helps support ongoing local conservation and education efforts that protect the places we all love.
Will you join us on June 16 at the Riverwalk Theater in Edwards for a film, discussion panel, prize drawing, and more? Doors open at 5PM - bring your friends and family and be part of the conversation! Registration link in our bio!

Ana was born and raised in Brazil and moved to Colorado in 2019, where she has been a resident of Eagle County ever since. She recently earned her Associate’s degree from Colorado Mountain College, where she deepened her passion for environmental stewardship, with a special focus on protecting watersheds and reducing the impacts of human activity on ecosystems. She is especially excited to play an active role in the conservation of the Eagle River.

Curious and adventurous by nature, Ana is the kind of person who turns life into an experience, best shared with good food and great company. She believes cooking is a true love language and finds joy in using it to brighten someone’s day. She lives by trying everything at least once and dreams of solo backpacking the world, tasting her way through different cultures. Outside of her work, she enjoys playing chess, solving puzzles, and getting lost in mysteries with unexpected plot twists. In her free time, you can often find her with her pup, Antonieta (whether out on an outdoor adventure or relaxing together on the couch) embracing both the big and small moments that make life meaningful.

This week ERC led a site tour with project partners for the Eagle River Community Water Plan Advisory Council behind the Riverwalk in Edwards. We are working to stabilize the river banks, control social trails, and build safer access points for recreation.

What’s one thing you’d like to see happen on the Riverwalk?
