This weekend’s Heritage Hike had a great turnout! Dr. Paul Reckner of the WI Historical Society, former forest Superintendent and current Friends of KMSFSU President Anne Korman and Mark Miner of the Ice Age Trail Alliance - Waukesha/Milwaukee County Chapter led a hike out to the area where Titus Sutphen, Eagle’s first known African American resident owned 80 acres and established a working farm on land which is now part of the Kettle Moraine State Forest-Southern Unit. The weather was picture perfect and 25 attendees enjoyed learning about Titus’ journey from New York state to Wisconsin.

The Friends of KMSF-SU volunteer crews and DNR staff assisted in site preparation for this program by holding several work days to clear vegetation so attendees could see stone foundation remnants and other historic clues at the site. Thank you all!

If you are interested in joining the Friends and be a part of our efforts, join today!

Join us at Paradise Springs each day from 10:00 a.m. to noon, as we launch a new iNaturalist Project to document the wide variety of plants and animals that live in the area.

This project will use 2 free phone apps—iNaturalist and Seek to photograph and identify what you find. Please download both before arriving. We will also be looking at the macroinvertebrates that live in the pond. This is a great event for all ages. Paradise Springs is located at W374S8640 County Road N, Eagle.
