In 2019, American Legion Post 127 in Eagle, Idaho, was rechartered and renamed the Orville Jackson Post 127, American Legion. The goal was to grow and connect with not only the community but with other Posts and Veteran Service Organizations to assist with veterans in need. “after all we all have a common goal to serve and support our veterans”
Today, Orville Jackson Post 127 has over 250 active
Veterans, sons of the American Legion, AL-Riders-TV-ID, and SNAP Brigade (citizen volunteer group) members. Ongoing programs encompass the social Coffee with a Vet, Operation Thank a Soldier, Operation Peanuts for Patriots (a favorite), Merchant Flag Program, Orville Jackson Post 127 Color Guard/Honor Guard, and Boys State. The American Legion’s success depends entirely on active membership, participation and volunteerism. The organization belongs to the people it serves and the communities in which it thrives. Today, our American Legion Orville Jackson Post 127 has over 150 active veteran, Sons of the American Legion and SNAP Brigade members. The number of participants in our activities continues to grow. Orville Jackson Post 127 pledges themselves to their four Pillars:
1. Veterans Affairs and Rehabilitation - continued devotion to our fellow service members and Veterans
2. National Security - promoting strong national security
3. Americanism - advocating patriotism and honor
4. Children and Youth - committed to mentoring youth and sponsorship of wholesome programs in our communities
These four pillars shape our work. We work relentlessly within our four pillars of service. We also work with other Veterans Service and Friendly Organizations to share information, promote events, and to help Veterans who have critical needs. It is so important to us to be able to direct and connect a veteran in need to the right organization that can help them if we cannot. A link to Idaho Veterans Guide for a multitude of services available is on our home page at Post127.org . Today the number 1 issue facing the veteran community is su***de. The American Legion “Be the One” mission to end veteran su***de, has joined forces with Columbia University to develop training for those who want to learn more about interacting and responding with veterans who may be in crisis. “Anyone can “Be The One” (FYI - Veterans Crisis Line dial 988 then press 1).
