There are five main components of economic development that the VCEDC is focused on:

1. Infrastructure
3. Business Development
4. Workforce Development
5. Community Cash Flow

VCEDC strategies for economic development include:

1. Help existing firms become more efficient
2. Capturing and growing existing markets (e.g. tourism)
3. Encouraging start-up of new firms
4. Attracting new basic or expo

rt employers, a/k/a industrial recruitment
5. Using aids from broader governments

The VCEDC also focuses on newer strategies for economic development targeting efforts such as youth entrepreneurship; creative community initiatives; social entrepreneurship; growing community philanthropy; and regional economic development, to name a few.

These mentor/mentee connections are creating opportunities to learn, grow, and support one another and we can’t wait to share more of their stories with you. Exciting news for aspiring entrepreneurs in the Northwoods! Nicolet College’s Start Your Own Business program is back for its third cohort, and registration is open.

Over 30 entrepreneurs have already gone through this eight-week, hands-on program, walking away with a complete business plan, financial projections, branding strategies, a mentor, and a pitch-ready presentation. Graduates even have the chance to compete for Spark funding to help launch or grow their business.

Classes begin September 15 and meet Tuesday evenings from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Nicolet College. If you’ve ever said “I have an idea but don’t know where to start,” this is for you.

What a history dating back to 1936 when Palmer Hanson first opened it as Hanson’s Hardware, then transitioning to a True Value.
