National Invasive Species Action Week is Feb. 23–27, highlighting the importance of preventing the spread of aquatic invasive species year-round.

Winter recreation doesn’t stop the spread of aquatic invasive species – but you can. Whether you are ice fishing, hiking or enjoying the outdoors, remember to take a few simple steps to protect Wisconsin’s waters:

– Clean fishing gear, boots and waders.
– Remove mud, plants and seeds. Check deep boot treads.
– Never release unused bait into the water.

A few extra minutes makes a big difference. Protect our lakes, rivers and wetlands. Every season matters.

As part of our work to preserve our natural waters for future generations, one of our joys is to encourage youth to discover and protect our natural world. Each year we are excited to award one or more scholarships to an area high school student.
