Just Breathe

Just Breathe Su***de Awareness in Teens and Youth. It's time to break the silence and step up so no one feels they have to step out! Life goes on, Just Breathe.

“Su***de” is almost unheard of until it happens. It’s not a subject talked about in schools, on the streets or even in the homes. It came to light that this is an issue, we need to implement Su***de Awareness and Prevention Assemblies and programs as a resource to our teenagers. They need to be informed that su***de is not an option and that there are valuable resources available to them. I starte

d my own campaign “Just Breathe” to raise funds that can be donated to the local schools to help aid in Su***de Awareness and Prevention activities, assemblies and in the form of scholarships. I decided, I can’t bring back the loved ones that I lost to su***de, but if I could help save one person, my mission would be accomplished.

“Just Breathe” was derived from all the emotions and how helpless one must feel while contemplating su***de. My mission is to let those know that are struggling within that moment that “Life goes on, just breathe, be brave and dare to inspire and always believe in yourself.”

Sha’Teals Story

My name is Sha’Teal Pearman and I am a 2020 graduate of South Dakota State University. I received my degree in Agriculture Business and Banking and Financial Services. I graduated Cheyenne Eagle Butte High School in 2016. As most of you are aware, we a have an unusually high rate of su***de here on the Cheyenne River Reservation in teenagers and young adults. I for one have been affected personally by su***de, unfortunately twice within 11 months. I have struggled with the aftermath and devastation taking a life causes to loved ones.

Trying to deal with the pain and hurt of my losses and watching my family and friends contemplate with wonder as to why someone so young could have so many problems they could take their own life. I could have easily gotten lost in my own grief and loss, but I decided I needed to rise above my heartache and instead of trying to figure out the past, I need to focus on the present and the future.

I come to realize that the subject of “Su***de” is almost unheard of until it happens.

I started my own non-profit campaign “Just Breathe” to help implement Su***de Awareness and Prevention activities, assemblies and scholarships for our youth on my reservation. I decided, I can’t bring back the loved ones that I lost to su***de, but if I could help save one person, my mission would be accomplished.
