This holiday season, The Keya Foundation will be participating in Christmas at the Capitol in Pierre, SD. Their theme this year is America’s 250th anniversary. For our tree, we want to represent our community, Lakota pride, and the many generations of our people who have served, protected, and sacrificed for our families and lands.
📣We are inviting community members to share photographs of warriors and veterans in your family to be featured as portraits on our Christmas tree at the State Capitol.
🏠FOR IN PERSON SUBMISSIONS: Stop by The Keya Foundation at 220 E Prairie Rd, Eagle Butte, SD. We will make a copy of your photograph so you can keep the original.
📱FOR ONLINE SUBMISSIONS: Send your photo through Facebook Messenger or text it to 605-218-1884. Please include the following information, if known:
• Name of the person pictured, in English and/or Lakota
• Branch of Service
• Battle or Conflict(s) fought in
• Years Served
If you do not know all of the information, that is okay. Send us what you know! Photo submissions will be accepted through November 6, 2026.

DON'T FORGET - HAPPENING TOMORROW!

Come join us at the Ptehcaka Harvest Oct. 14, 2026 at 9:30am at the Rodeo Grounds then will be moved to the CRST Lakota Cultural Center in Eagle Butte. We hope to see you there!

Our Good Relative Circle (GRC) students have been busy getting ready for the upcoming SBEB Trunk ’n Treat! At our October meeting, students and advisors worked together to set up and test the Halloween maze, lighting, and brainstorm ways to make this year’s maze extra spooky!

Students also finalized their costume ideas and are excited to bring their creativity to life! We love seeing our youth work together, problem-solve, share ideas, and take an active role in creating fun experiences for our community.

C-EB 6th Grade Natural Helpers had their first official meeting last night! 💙 Students came together to complete one of our favorite activities, a color personality test! This is always a fun way for us to get to know our students while helping them better understand themselves and the people around them.

Through the activity, students explored their own personality traits, learned more about their advisors, and talked about how different personality types can work together as a team. Next up was planning for the activities Natural Helpers will take on throughout the school year, starting with an exciting October event at the end of this month! 🎃 More details to come, soon so stay in touch!

The Keya Foundation is looking for a Program Specialist to join our team in Eagle Butte!

The Program Specialist will play an important role in supporting the planning, coordination, and delivery of Keya Foundation programs and activities. The primary focus of this position will be our youth programs, while also providing support across other Keya initiatives as needed.

This weekend, we welcomed our second cohort of the Good Relative Circle (GRC) youth program! 🎉We are excited to have 9 students joining us for the new year.

During training, our youth and advisors talked about what being a Good Relative looks like to them and how those ideas will help guide the program throughout the year. Students also explored their leadership strengths, personality traites, practiced teamwork and problem solving skills, and started preparing for our first event coming up in October!

It was a great day filled with learning, fun, and getting to know one another. We are excited to see this group grow, take on new challenges, and see what they accomplish together this school year!💛
