Big progress at the new Mission Center (K'aslem Jay)! 🎉

Earlier this month, Mission staff and volunteers from Strickland Construction completed the exterior structure of Phase I of the Center, including the kitchen, dining hall, restrooms, and gathering spaces.

The project now moves into its next stage, with windows, doors, plumbing, electrical systems, and kitchen equipment still to come. We're hopeful this phase will be completed by the end of the year!

Every block or beam in the new Mission Center is being made possible by people who care deeply about the future of San Lucas. If you haven't yet contributed to this historic project, we invite you to make a donation today.

Long after construction is complete, this space will serve as a gathering place for visitors and community members. Your generosity will leave a lasting impact for generations to come.

What is honey-processed coffee? ☕🤔

Despite the name, honey-processed coffee doesn't contain any honey. The name comes from the sticky mucilage left on the coffee bean as it dries. This process creates a smoother mouthfeel and develops complex flavors.

Café Juan Ana currently offers two delicious honey-processed roasts:

🍓 Noble Aniversario (Medium Roast): Bright and complex with notes of strawberry and blueberry and aromas of caramel and sugar cane.

🍫 Tueste del Rey (Medium-Dark Roast)
Richer and bolder, featuring aromas of molasses and dark chocolate with flavors of roasted peanuts and fresh lime.

The Guatemalan Ministry of Education paid a visit to the San Lucas Mission Women’s Center to evaluate the participants for diplomas in baking. The participants enjoyed showcasing everything they’ve learned! 🎂

The Women’s Center exists to provide women with opportunities to learn new skills so that they can earn an income. It also provides a safe community space to make friends and share dreams.

Could you or someone you know be the next Long-Term Volunteer to serve at the San Lucas Mission in Guatemala?

Serving as a Long-Term Volunteer (LTV) can be an incredibly rewarding experience for people of all ages and backgrounds. LTVs play a critical role in supporting visiting groups in San Lucas. They provide Spanish interpretation, support logistics, and participate in service projects alongside visitors.

The ideal LTV is:
--Available to volunteer in San Lucas for at least 3 months
--Proficient in Spanish (or willing to pay for and attend language school before their volunteer term)
--Approachable, responsible, and ready to learn

Start dates and term lengths are flexible!

Big news! The roof is now complete on the new San Lucas Mission Center to be named K’aslem Jay! 🎉

K’aslem Jay will be a place where community members and visitors alike can learn, connect, and grow. 🫶

Mission Director Leonel Tun says: “Having a space of our own also represents real hope for the people of San Lucas. Even in the face of economic crisis, extreme poverty, malnutrition, and a lack of opportunities—despite the many and complex challenges families face—the San Lucas Mission will be here to serve the community for many years to come.”

It’s incredible to see this special place coming to life! 🥹
