World Menstrual Hygiene Day | May 28

Every girl deserves to manage her period with dignity, safely, confidently, and without shame.

At BASA Development Initiatives, ending period poverty is part of our commitment to the whole wellbeing of women and girls in Liberia. Through community health programs, awareness campaigns, and advocacy, we are working to make menstrual hygiene a right, not a privilege.

World Malaria Day | April 25, 2026

Today, BASA Development Initiatives joins communities across Liberia and the world in commemorating World Malaria Day — a day to reflect, recommit, and act.

Malaria continues to be one of the most serious public health challenges facing Liberian communities. At BDI, we believe that real change starts with informed communities and systems that are built to respond.

Across multiple counties in Liberia, community health education and awareness is at the core of what we do. We work directly with community members — raising awareness about malaria prevention, symptoms, and the importance of seeking timely care. We also engage at the advocacy level, amplifying community voices in conversations around health policy and resource allocation to ensure that the people most affected by malaria are not left out of the decisions that shape their health.

Because when communities are informed and their voices are heard, health systems get stronger.

On this World Malaria Day, we reaffirm our commitment to the communities we serve — and to a future where no Liberian life is lost to a preventable disease.

BDI is proud to donate agricultural tools and equipment to support climate action and agriculture on the ground in Sinoe County!

As part of the aftermath of the Sinoe Building Climate Resilience Project, BDI donated agricultural tools and equipment to the following schools and institutions:

🏫 Sinoe Multilateral High School
🏫 Eliza Davies George Memorial Baptist School
🏫 AG Junior High School
🏫 Harrisson Grisby United Methodist High School
🌿 Natemujee Agri Resources Ltd
🏛️ Greenville City Corporation

These tools were used directly in the planting of over 5,000 trees — including mangroves and coconut trees — across Greenville, Sinoe County, as part of our tree planting activities under the project.

The donation is aimed at enhancing the working activities and initiatives of these schools, businesses, and local institutions, so that the work does not stop here.

Each of the four schools operates a Climate Club established under the project, and this equipment puts real resources in their hands to keep going.

We’re excited to share the latest progress in the One Goal for Climate Interschool Tournament! This league, implemented by BASA Development Initiatives under the Sinoe Building Climate Resilience Project, funded by the Global Environment Facility through Conservation International Liberia, is now in its semifinals.

This week, all group stages and quarterfinals were completed, and next Wednesday, we’ll return with the semifinals.

The purpose of this league is to bring young people together through the power of sports—football and kickball—to raise awareness about climate resilience, environmental literacy, and waste management. These teams have been coordinated by the dedicated student climate clubs from the schools participating in the project.

We’ve seen how sports create a powerful sense of community, and in this league, every goal and every match is a step toward a greener future.

The league will take a brief pause, and we’ll return on Wednesday next week with the following fixtures:

In kickball:

* Baptist School vs. SJC Davis Junior High
* St. Paul Episcopal High vs. Salvation Army High

In football:

* St. Paul Episcopal High vs. Sinoe Multilateral High
* James E. Greene English & Islamic Junior High vs. the winner of the Baptist High vs. Seebeh High game

We can’t wait to see the teams back on the field—every step brings us closer to a greener future. Stay tuned for more updates!

We’re excited to present the One Goal for Climate Interschool Tournament!

This event is a highlight of the Sinoe Building Climate Resilience Project, led by BASA Development Initiatives, and supported by the Global Environment Facility through Conservation International Liberia, based in Sinoe County, Greenville. As we reach the climax of this six-month project, the tournament unites 10 schools as part of our climate literacy initiative.

Over the past few months, we have delivered climate education workshops for students and teachers, enhanced waste management practices, supported a local recycling enterprise, and planted 5,000 trees—mahogany and coconut—led by our student climate clubs and volunteers.

Sports have a unique power to bring people together, and that’s why this tournament is so vital. Football and kickball transcend boundaries, connecting young people across backgrounds, and offering a dynamic platform to raise awareness. By engaging in these sports, students are not just competing—they are learning, leading, and building a deeper bond with their community and environment.

Join us as we celebrate every goal, every step, and every young leader driving us toward a greener future!

Greenville’s Climate Resilience Journey Continues!

Today marked an exciting step in our Sinoe Building Climate Resilience Project in Greenville, Sinoe County. With the help of students from James E Greene Islamic and English School and Salvation Army High School, we planted 220 coconut seedlings along the Downtown beach in the Fish Town community. This is part of our larger goal of planting 5,000 trees, with 1,500 being coconut seedlings. The mangrove trees planting portion has already been completed, and we’re excited to keep the momentum going!

Tomorrow, we’ll continue our efforts from Fish Town all the way to the Po River coastline community. Beyond that, we’ll also be planting trees within the community, such as the Greenville City Hall grounds, the Down the Mangrove communities, and school campuses where our climate change clubs are active.

A heartfelt thank you to the Global Environment Facility through Conservation International Liberia for funding this project and the Greenville City Corporation, and the Environmental Protection Agency for their invaluable support and collaboration.

Stay tuned as we keep growing greener together! 🌿
