🍎 Welcome Back, Riverview!

A new school year means new opportunities to support our teachers and students.

REF’s mission is simple: to fund programs, tools, and experiences that help RSD students thrive. Each year, REF helps bring big ideas to life - from hands‑on science tools and literacy programs to music, technology, and classroom enhancements that wouldn’t be possible through traditional funding alone.

We invest in projects that spark curiosity, strengthen academics, and create meaningful learning opportunities from Kindergarten through high school.

While summer may be winding down, REF’s grantmaking continues year‑round. Check out our recent grants awarded:

🔬 Digital Microscopes for Riverview Kindergarten Classrooms
Kindergarten teams at Cherry Valley, Carnation, and Stillwater will soon receive digital microscopes to deepen hands-on science lessons. These microscopes are designed for little hands and will support key science units, from trees and weather in the fall to birds in the spring, helping students observe, investigate, and build curiosity through real‑world discovery.

🎺 Instruments to Support the Return of 5th Grade Band
This fall, our district is reinstating the 5th grade band program across all elementary schools - a true collaboration between High School Music Director Nick Sasse, 5th Grade Band Director Carrie Keller, building principals, and district leadership. These instruments will be available to students who may not be able to purchase or rent their own, ensuring every child has the opportunity to participate. We can’t wait to hear the music these instruments bring to our schools.

📚Riverview students thrive when educators dream big and a community helps expand these opportunities for every student. Thank you for supporting REF and the grants that make these programs possible.

We hope you’re having a great summer! 🌞 Cosmic and the REF crew have been hard at work reviewing summer grants. We’re thrilled to share one that’s especially meaningful - REF is awarding a life science grant to revive the Secret Garden at Cherry Valley Elementary.

Students will observe plant structures, investigate pollination, track weather patterns, and collaborate with peers.

Revamping CVE’s garden will transform traditional classroom learning into a living laboratory, creating an interactive space that connects science, math, ELA, and social‑emotional learning.

We can’t wait to see what blooms at CVE in the coming years! 🌼

⚡As we close out our last day of school, we’re celebrating our innovative teachers and another example of REF grants sparking hands-on learning!⚡

Sixth graders in Mr. McFarland’s Digital Design class at Tolt Middle School dove into a new electricity unit using Snap Circuit kits. Students built real working projects - FM radios, remote‑controlled cars, and more, while exploring concepts like motors, wiring, voltage, and power.

“The students really enjoyed the hands‑on nature of the unit and getting to experiment and invent with electricity in a way that was safe. I was happy with how quickly they gained the courage to try their own ideas and put their learning into practice. We are so fortunate to have the support of REF in this district,” said Erik McFarland.

It’s race day! 🏃🏻‍♀️🏃‍♂️We’re kicking off Duvall Days Festival with our annual 5K fun run tonight in McCormick Park. We’ve got a great event planned with live music, food trucks, beer garden, dunk tank, and more!

Come out and cheer on our runners and walkers, enjoy the festivities, and help us kick off the 50th anniversary of Duvall Days! 🎈

Thinking about running or walking in the race? You can register in-person at our registration table tonight from 4-6:15 at McCormick Park - race begins at 6:30!

RACE DAY - Friday, June 5
4:00-6:15 PM - Check in begins
5:00 PM - Gear Check opens
5:30 PM - Pre-race festivities in McCormick Park (Food trucks, Dunk tank, Root Beer Floats)
6:00 PM - Rotary Beer Garden opens
6:30 PM - Race starts!
6:30 PM - Vibemind band performance on Main Stage
7:15 PM – Awards and $1500 group grant giveaway announced
