We’d like to commend the professional conduct that Duvall Fire Commissioner Michael Beard has shown since he was elected to the Board.

Commissioner Beard exemplifies modern leadership in action, demonstrating a robust commitment to professionalism, transparency, and community-first values. He meticulously evaluates data, listens to organizational feedback, and conducts business openly, all while advocating for the optimal interests of the community and fire department. His performance stands as a stellar example of the commitment, integrity, and accountability the public should expect from their elected officials.

Over the last 6 months, Commissioner Beard has set personal bias aside and evaluated potential partners for a contract for services on their merits. Despite coming into the process feeling that Redmond was the right choice, he saw that the data, community and fire department supported selection of Eastside Fire and Rescue as the partner that would support and accelerate Duvall’s Fire and EMS needs into the future.

When confronted by two commissioner’s highly biased and subjective opinions unsupported by the facts or reason, he stood his ground and showed integrity to support the right choice for the district.

Commissioner Beard’s presentation where he makes his case to select Eastside Fire and Rescue can viewed on the attached video. Skip to the 1:29 mark to watch.

We are reaching out to you, the heart of our community, to share some important news regarding recent decisions that could affect us all. On June 28th, two of our Duvall Fire Commissioners made a decision that goes against the overwhelming consensus of our community, the advice of several fire service experts, the wisdom of our current and former Fire Chiefs and Commissioners, and the unified voice of us, your Duvall Firefighters.

These commissioners voted to contract for services with Redmond Fire - a choice not only at odds with the collective will of our community, but also one that comes at a greater financial burden of approximately $400,000 more than Eastside Fire and Rescue. Moreover, this option provides fewer critical services that our unique Duvall area needs.

We want to stress the seriousness of this decision - a decision that disregards our collective goals, our shared voice, and, above all, the wellbeing of our community. This is not about bureaucracy or politics; this is about ensuring the safety of our friends, our families, our neighbors - the people we care about and have dedicated our lives to protect.

Now, more than ever, we need to come together, be informed, and stand united. We believe that our community deserves better, deserves the best. It's crucial that our voices continue to be heard, and that the decisions made reflect the true needs of our Duvall community.

Please stay tuned for further updates, share this information with your networks, and, most importantly, continue to express your support for the best interest of our beloved community.

🔥Attention Duvall Firefighters Family🔥

Political Action Committee Liaison, Seth Merritt, recently spoke at the Redmond City Council meeting, representing the collective voice of the International Association of Firefighters Local 2878. His compelling speech highlighted our shared commitment to uniting the firefighters from Duvall and Eastside Fire into one department through a contract for service, a vision firmly supported by Duvall’s community along with KCFD45’s firefighters and administration.

Despite some unexpected turns, our resolve remains undeterred. We stand together, as always, ready to uphold our collective vision for the betterment of the communities we proudly serve.

We've recorded Seth's powerful speech, and we invite you all to listen, share, and continue supporting our mission. Let's ensure our voice is heard, now more than ever.

Together, we can make choices that serve our communities better.

In the next couple of days every member of our community will be receiving a postcard in their mailbox with instructions linked to the Fire District's new website: http://duvallfire45.org that contains a summary of the Board of Commissioners evaluation process to contract for services with either Eastside Fire and Rescue or Redmond Fire.

We remain steadfast that Eastside Fire and Rescue continues to represent the best fit for our community, hands down, no hesitation or reservations.

We hope you will join us in support of Eastside Fire and Rescue and make your voice heard with the Board of Commissioners.

On June 21st, one of the last two Special Workshop meetings will be held to finalize the decision to contract. The outcome of this decision could have impact on our community for years and we strongly encourage everyone that will be affected by this change to exercise their right to participate in their fire departments future and voice their opinions to the Board of Commissioners.

On May 17th, 2023 the Duvall Fire - King County Fire District 45 Board of Commissioners voted to pursue a Contract for Services as the best option for moving forward to stabilize costs and improve service to our community.

As part of the vote, they narrowed down the options for contracting to Eastside Fire and Rescue and Redmond Fire.

Duvall Fire also has put up a website containing resources for our community to evaluate all options and proposals at https://www.duvallfire45.org/

As your Duvall Firefighters, we maintain our belief that Eastside Fire and Rescue represents the best fit for our community from decades of experience working side by side with our neighboring agencies. Eastside Fire and Rescue has a great deal of experience working with the residents of the Snoqualmie Valley and brings needed resources to our growing community.

We strongly encourage residents of the fire district to evaluate the proposals from both departments and make your views known to our Commissioners by visiting the dedicated Contract for Services website in this post and follow the link to at the bottom of the page to "Get in Touch"

A big thanks to Eastside Fire and Rescue for the invite to participate in joint training on an aquired commercial structure in Woodinville.

These opportunities to practice down firefighter rescue, search and rescue and ventilation in large commercial structures helps us refine our skills and be better prepared to server our community should the call arise.

What started in an impromptu friendly competition between Duvall Fire’s Station 166 and 167s crews was abruptly cut short by a call, but Lt Sean Ansell’s here showing he’s still got hustle!

The first in a series of scheduled Board of Commissioners meetings to review regionalization options is happening tonight at 7:00pm.

In these meetings, our Board of Commissioners are reviewing the returned proposals from Eastside Fire and Rescue, Redmond Fire and Snohomish Regional Fire and Rescue. These proposals are available for public viewing on the KCFD45’s website that can be found on the link attached to this post.

Of the returned proposals, Eastside Fire and Rescue is the only proposal that represents a significant cost savings to the taxpayer and we continue to stand behind them as our preferred partner. In additional to the taxpayer cost savings, they offer the best range of services and an established successful track record of providing service to communities similar to Duvall.

We encourage our community to review the proposals and attend tonight’s meeting. Please help us support contracting for services with Eastside Fire and Rescue to continue to provide the best service and value to our community by sending email to [email protected] or attending the meeting at the district’s Headquarter Station (15600 1st Ave NE, Duvall) or online.
