Ever stood in front of the Bone Wall and thought, “Wait… which bone is that?”

You’re not alone — it’s one of the most common questions our rangers get in the Quarry Exhibit Hall!

To help you explore the wall like a pro, we have a handy Bone Guide for sale. It includes maps of different sections of the Bone Wall and highlights many of the fossils on display. With more than 1,500 bones in the wall, it doesn’t cover every single one — but it covers a whole lot of them!
You can pick up a copy at the Dino Store or grab one for a $1.00 donation at the Quarry Exhibit Hall.

Bonus tip: the Bone Guide also makes an awesome coloring book. Choose a color for each dinosaur listed on the back cover, then color in that species across the pages. Fun fact: this is actually how many of our rangers learned to memorize the bones in the wall!

If you’ve used the guide before — or have your own Bone Wall photos — drop them in the comments. We’d love to see your adventures!

Memorial Day is a time to honor and remember the men and women who gave their lives in service to the United States. The Bureau of Reclamation recognizes their sacrifice and reflects on the freedoms made possible through their service.

Today, we pause in gratitude and remembrance.

Flaming Gorge Reservoir water elevations are expected to be lower than normal this year due to long‑term drought conditions and increased releases from Flaming Gorge Dam. As water levels drop, access to and use of certain facilities around the reservoir may be affected.

Lower water levels can expose offshore hazards that are normally deep enough to avoid, such as rocks, debris, logs and other objects. Boaters should check current water levels before heading out and know their boat’s draft, or minimum depth needed for the vessel to float without touching bottom.

Larval razorback suckers have been detected in Reach 2 of the Green River, activating the Larval Trigger Study Plan (LTSP).

What is the LTSP? Launched in 2012, the LTSP uses the first appearance of endangered razorback sucker larvae to trigger high flow releases from Flaming Gorge Dam. These flows mimic natural spring runoff, helping inundate floodplain wetlands where larvae can grow and survive.

💧 Dam releases started ramping up yesterday, May 4, and now will continue at about ~8,600 cfs for at least one week, or until new guidance is issued.

⚠️ Recreationists: Please use caution—water will be cold, swift, and higher than normal.
