The Marine Forces Reserve (also known as the United States Marine Corps Reserve or the U.S. Marine Corps Forces Reserve) was created in 1916, in conjunction with the creation of the Navy Reserve. Since then, the evolution of this force would expand from just thirty-five to today’s roughly 40,000 Marine Corps Reservists. The Marine Corps Reserve Birthday is observed every year on the 29th of August.

Including concerns, complaints, internal policies, membership matters, officer or committee issues, Post operations, finances, and ideas or proposals requiring official action. These matters should be brought to a monthly meeting where they can be addressed by the appropriate officers through the proper chain of command. The Canteen is a place to relax.

🎯 HUNTER-TRAPPER EDUCATION IS COMING BACK TO DURYEA! 🦌
The Duryea American Legion Post 585 is proud to partner with the Duryea VFW Post 1227 to bring Pennsylvania Hunter-Trapper Education back to Duryea after a long hiatus!

Our Jr. Vice Commander, Mark Hoover, is a certified Pennsylvania Hunter-Trapper Education instructor and will be teaching the course alongside Duryea VFW Commander Daniel Stella.

Honoring the brave this Purple Heart Day. 💜

On August 7th, Brennan-Regan Post 585 pauses to pay solemn tribute to the courageous men and women who were wounded or made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country. Established by General George Washington in 1782 as the Badge of Military Merit, the Purple Heart is our nation's oldest military decoration. It is a medal that no service member ever asks to receive, but one that represents the highest price paid for our freedom. Here in Duryea, we stand in profound respect and gratitude for our local Purple Heart recipients and their families. Your physical and emotional scars are a testament to your unyielding loyalty and sacrifice. Please join us in honoring these heroes today.

Happy 236th Birthday to the United States Coast Guard!
⚓️On August 4th, Brennan-Regan Post 585 salutes the brave men and women of the U.S. Coast Guard. Since 1790, our nation's oldest continuous seagoing service has stood the watch, protecting our waters, saving lives at sea, and defending American freedom. From search and rescue to homeland security, the Coast Guard is always ready—Semper Paratus. Here in Duryea, we are proud to count Coast Guard veterans among our American Legion family. Today, we celebrate your courage, your sacrifice, and your unwavering dedication to duty. Join us in wishing a Happy Birthday to all Coasties, past and present!
