💙 Law Enforcement Appreciation Day 💙

Today, we pause to honor the men and women who wear the badge with pride, courage, and unwavering dedication. At the Duryea Police Department, I am proud to serve alongside officers who go above and beyond every single day to protect and serve our community. Your commitment, professionalism, and compassion do not go unnoticed.

I want to take a moment to recognize and thank each member of our department:

Sgt. Charles Swisher – Your years of service, dedication, and unmatched knowledge are the foundation of our department. Thank you for your leadership and guidance.

Pfc. Brianne Malvizzi – Our second longest-tenured officer and the first full-time female officer hired by Duryea Police. Your outstanding community policing skills set the standard for excellence.

Pfc. Christopher Taylor – Bringing military leadership and a proactive approach to policing, you exemplify professionalism and initiative.

Pfc. Robin-Lynn Plake – You are becoming a fine officer, continuously growing and using your skills to make our community a better place.

Pfc. Lorenzo Saavedra – Nearing the completion of your full-time probationary period, you have exceeded expectations and shown great promise.

Part-Time Officers Patrick Wall, Tywone Giles, and Jennifer Anderson – Your dedication and teamwork complete our agency and complement our full-time officers, ensuring Duryea remains a safe and strong community.

Today, I want to take a moment to recognize and thank all of our First Responders who dedicate themselves to protecting and serving others, often without recognition, but never without impact.

📞 The Dispatchers at the Luzerne County 911 Center – your calm professionalism and quick thinking are the lifeline for every emergency response.

🔥 The Members of the Duryea Fire Departments and Duryea Fire Police – your courage and commitment to keeping our community safe do not go unnoticed.

🚑 The EMS personnel from Pittston Area Regional Ambulance and Hughestown Emergency Service– your compassion and lifesaving expertise make a difference every single day.

We’re adding a Food Drive to this year’s event! If you’re able, please bring canned goods and non-perishable food items when you pick up your meals. All donations will go to Pittston Area Meals on Wheels to help those in need beyond Thanksgiving.

🕓 Starting at 4:00 PM — until all dinners are handed out
Location: the rear of Germania Hose Company, by the red barn please enter the field from wright st to Lineup

We’re proud to continue a tradition that has grown far beyond what we ever imagined 12 years ago. Each year, we serve between 200 and 300 delicious Thanksgiving dinners to our community, and this year will be no different!
🍽️ Dinner Includes:
*Turkey & Gravy prepared by Garrity's in Moosic, generously donated by The Family Prescription Counter, Main St. Duryea
*Mashed Potatoes donated by Town Tavern, Foote Ave Duryea
*Stuffing donated by Main St. Kitchen, Main St. & Dickson St. Duryea
*Vegetables donated by Marie’s Diner, McAlpine St. Duryea

We are deeply grateful to Chris from The Family Prescription Counter, who has purchased the turkey every single year. Thank you to all the local businesses who donate, the Duryea Police Department, Duryea Crime Watch members, Duryea Fire Police, and a very special thank you to the Germania Hose Company for always opening their doors to us.

This event is a reflection of the love and commitment we have for our community.
The Chief of Police and the entire Duryea Police Department are honored to give back to the people we care about so deeply.

We have the greatest team of police officers assembled. Thank you to all of them.

In honor of National Thank a Police Officer Day, I want to express my deepest gratitude to the men and women of the Duryea Police Department, whom I have the privilege of serving as Chief.

Each day, you go above and beyond to protect our community and prevent crime from taking hold. I see the sacrifices you make every time you put on the badge, the long hours, the missed moments with family, and the weight of responsibility you carry.

You all deserve so much more than a simple “thank you,” but I hope you know how much those words matter. Thank you for making the safety of the Duryea community and its residents a top priority.
You may not always hear it, but I want you to know that I appreciate everything you do fo me, this deparrment and our community. In my heart and in my eyes, you are true heroes and I am beyond thankful that your career path is taking place here in Duryea.

Thank you also to all the men and woman in our area who wear the badge with honor and integrity. You too should be proud of the care path you are on. Together we can make our communities safe.
