The Kay Yow Cancer Fund is a 501(C)(3) non-profit organization committed to fighting ALL cancers affecting women by raising money for scientific research, serving the underserved and uniting people in the fight against cancer. The Kay Yow Cancer Fund was officially founded on December 3, 2007, from the vision of the organization’s namesake Kay Yow, former North Carolina State University head women
’s basketball coach. Before her death, she joined forces with the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and The V Foundation for Cancer Research to form the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. With the creation of the Fund, Coach Yow hoped to raise money to further cutting-edge research conducted by the nation’s top doctors and medical experts to allow more and more cancer patients to have access to experimental drugs and clinical trials. Since the majority of these research projects are privately funded, these researchers desperately need our support in order for them to continue to make strides in finding a cure for cancer. Coach Yow's vision also included funding for programs that serve underserved women with cancer. The Fund works with cancer centers nationwide to identify programs that make an impact in their local community for underserved women. Since its inception in 2007, the Kay Yow Cancer Fund has awarded $8.28 million to fund women's cancer research and programs that provide access to quality cancer healthcare for underserved women.
