As we wrap up Supportive Housing Week, we’re reminded that the need for safe, affordable housing in Durham hasn’t gone away.

31% of Durham renters are cost-burdened, spending too much of their income on housing and leaving less for other essentials.

Supportive Housing Week may be ending, but the work continues. Together, we can keep building a Durham where everyone has a safe place to call home. 💙

🏠 Day 4 of Supportive Housing Week!

Meet Paulette Fairfax, a longtime Housing for New Hope partner who has been helping create pathways home for individuals and families in Durham for more than 7 years.

As a landlord partner in our community-based supportive housing program, Paulette has consistently shown up with transparency, flexibility, and a commitment to our neighbors. She’s also been a driving force behind our recent housing “sprints,” helping us move people into safe, stable homes faster.

We’re so grateful for partners like Paulette who believe that ending homelessness is something we do together. Thank you, Paulette, for being part of the HNH community!

When people have stable housing paired with supportive services, they are less likely to rely on costly emergency systems like hospitals, jails, and crisis services. That means better outcomes for participants and significant cost savings for the City of Durham.

🏠 Day 2 of Supportive Housing Week!
At Housing for New Hope (HNH), Campus-based Supportive Housing is one of the ways we help individuals who have experienced homelessness achieve long-term stability. By combining affordable housing with individualized support services, participants have the opportunity to build stability, improve their health, and thrive in their communities. Throughout Supportive Housing Week, we're giving you a window into HNH's communities and the impact they have across Durham.

These campuses are more than places to live—they're communities where participants have access to safe, affordable housing and the support they need to achieve lasting housing stability.

📣 Durham recognizes Supportive Housing Week!

Mayor Leonardo Williams has officially proclaimed August 24–28, 2026, as Supportive Housing Week in Durham, joining communities across the country in an initiative led by the Corporation for Supportive Housing (CSH).

We’re grateful to Mayor Williams and the City of Durham for recognizing the power of supportive housing to help our neighbors find stability, community, and a place to call home.

A community came together. Fourteen neighbors came home.

This spring, Housing for New Hope was proud to partner with the City of Durham's Community Safety Department and many other community partners during a coordinated housing sprint that helped 14 neighbors transition from encampments into stable housing.

Our staff worked alongside these partners to coordinate housing placements, move-ins, and ongoing supportive services, helping ensure each neighbor had the support they needed as they began the next chapter of their journey.

Moments like these remind us what's possible when nonprofits, local government, landlords, and community partners work toward a common goal. Together, we're building pathways home.

Stability doesn't happen overnight. It happens one step at a time.

When Betty came to Housing for New Hope, she was facing homelessness, unemployment, and financial instability. Through our Supportive Pathways, she found more than housing—she gained life skills, confidence, meaningful relationships, and the support she needed to build a new future.

Ten years later, Betty graduated from our program, moved into independent housing, secured steady employment, and now shares what she's learned to encourage others on their own journey.

Every person's path is different. That's why Vision 2032 is built around individualized support that helps people achieve lasting stability.

We're grateful to The Leon Levine Foundation for its renewed investment of $150,000 to support Housing for New Hope's mission to prevent and end homelessness one valuable person at a time.

This funding will strengthen our Campus-based and Community-based Supportive Housing programs, helping more Durham neighbors access stable housing, personalized support, and opportunities to thrive.

Together, we're advancing Vision 2032 and building a community where everyone has a place to call home. 💙

A heartfelt thank you to the Duke University nursing students for investing in the well-being of our staff!

Recently, Housing for New Hope staff participated in a Wellness Event led by Duke University nursing students, focusing on practical strategies for everyday well-being.
❤️‍🩹 Compassion Fatigue – recognizing the signs of burnout and learning how to care for ourselves while caring for others.
💤 Sleep Hygiene – building healthy sleep habits to improve overall wellness.
💪 Staying Healthy at Work – simple ways to support physical and mental health throughout the workday.

Through engaging activities—including planting succulents 🌱—our team walked away with practical tools to use both at work and at home.
