CA Food Pantry

CA Food Pantry Our purpose is to lovingly and respectfully meet the need of food for the families of our community.
(1)

Christian Assembly Emergency Food Pantry was originally established in 1986 to help our church members when they were in need. After two years we realized there was also a need in our community. We operated as an outreach ministry of our church until 2011 when we established a nonprofit corporation and received our 501c3 tax exemption. Specifically, our organization was formed to provide assistanc

e to those in need without regard to race, creed or religion. Our purpose is to distribute food to residents of Durham and surrounding counties in North Carolina. We are a member agency of the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina where we receive monthly government allotments from the “Temporary Emergency Food Assistance Program” (TEFAP). We provide families, without any qualifications, food we have purchased from local retail stores or that has been donated to us. To receive government food, TEFAP dictates that the client must be a resident of Durham County. Our goal, however, is that no one leaves our pantry without food. Over the years the number of individuals and families that depend on us has increased dramatically. During our first 15 years we had between 400 and 600 families, however, in the past 10 years it has increased to over 1,500 families or 8,000+ individuals.
