Join the East Coast Greenway Alliance and The Circuit Trails Coalition on Saturday, October 3 for a 17.76-mile, people-powered celebration of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. Starting and finishing at Franklin Square in Philadelphia, participants can choose to bike or walk a 17.76-mile tour of historic sites along the Delaware River Heritage Trail segment of the East Coast Greenway in Philadelphia and Camden, New Jersey. A shorter walking option also will be available. This free, community event is designed to encourage participants to learn about and reflect upon the Greater Philadelphia region and its role in the founding of our nation — all connected by the Delaware River Heritage Trail.

East Coast Greenway Alliance partners will lead each event, with FreeWalkers leading the walking tour and the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia leading the bike ride.

East Coast Greenway Alliance Southeast Manager Jim Hemphill joined local partners and officials today to celebrate Florida's newest East Coast Greenway segment, the completion of the Amelia Island Parkway Trail in Fernandina Beach.

Building upon a 0.8-mile segment opened in 2024, the ribbon cutting celebrated the opening of an additional 2.4 miles of trail built along Amelia Island Parkway from Via del Rey Road to State Road A1A / South 8th Street.

The now 3.2-mile Amelia Island Parkway Trail helps create a continuous trail system of approximately 12 miles from the south end of Amelia Island to South 8th Street.

The Amelia Island Trail also connects to the Timucuan Trail creating a significant stretch of the East Coast Greenway. Plans to extend to the north and west will link to hundreds of miles of connected trail in northern Florida.

Mike Pikula, President of Friends of the Amelia Island Trail, Inc. and a long-time East Coast Greenway partner, recognized the many people who helped bring the project to completion, including planners, designers, contractors and Nassau County, FL staff.

Funded in part by Florida's Shared-Use Nonmotorized (SUN) Trail program, this project continues improving connectivity for people bicycling and walking along Amelia Island and beyond.

Big news for one of the most popular segments of the East Coast Greenway!

We’re thrilled to announce that the Mount Vernon Trail has been inducted into the Rails to Trails Conservancy 2026 Trail Hall of Fame! This national recognition celebrates the Mount Vernon Trail as one of the country’s most outstanding trails. Thank you to everyone who voted, shared the campaign, volunteered on the trail, and helped spread the word.

The Hall of Fame designation is a testament to the impact individuals have when they show up for trails. The Mount Vernon Trail exists because of the efforts of countless community members and volunteers who built the first segment of trail and advocated for continued expansion and investment. The Friends of the Mount Vernon Trail is honored to continue that legacy of trail stewardship with weekly Friends of the Mount Vernon Trail volunteer events and donors supporting continuous upgrades to trail amenities.

The Georgia Department of Transportation is developing its first ever Rural Active Transportation Plan and is seeking input from East Coast Greenway supporters!

This plan will guide updates to GDOT's Roadway Design Manual and outline GDOT's priorities for improving biking and walking safety and access along key active transportation routes, including the East Coast Greenway.
