The RHMS PTA is seeking volunteers to supervise students, manage games, etc. Thank you! *You must be an approved DPS volunteer. *RamsFEST is outside. Bring water, hat, sunscreen, etc.

A fellow Rogers-Herr parent recently told me some RHMS teachers will not return for the 2026/2027 school year as DPS will no longer sponsor their work visas.

At this time, I am aware of 2 teachers that are impacted this year and a few more that will face the same situation this time next school year. (For privacy and security, I will not include names in this post)

The PTA is required to be nonpartisan...so this post is not about politics, it's about supporting our teachers. So, I hope the RHMS community can show support in other ways.

1) Write to the Board of Education and DPS Central Office.
2) Donate gift cards/cash for moving expenses. (This is not meant to be a donating/fundraising event so donate at your discretion)
3) Small gifts and mementos of the students, Rogers-Herr, Durham, and North Carolina.
I spoke to teachers today and, honestly, they will miss the students and co-workers the most. So perhaps students could write notes or give pictures to the teachers? Or magnets, keychains, or shirts from the Durham Bulls or local universities? Any little reminders of their "home" here.

I'll include a 4th idea...I'm aware this is a longshot 😉
4) If you own or know of a business in need of fabulous teachers and/or interpreters and willing to sponsor work visas, let us know!

💙Fund Our Schools💙

In the spirit of collective efficacy, two scholars who were moved by our May 1 call out day & have dedicated their time to make a positive change in our community. Please read below and support!

Hello, we are two seventh-grade scholars named Henry Norman and Roshan Mehta-Treml, and the second, we learned how little teachers were paid and how little schools were funded. We had to make a change. So, we created a fundraiser called F.O.S., standing for Fund, Our Schools! This fundraiser helps raise money to pay for school materials, because did you know NC has officially the lowest paid school districts of funding per student. Which means they can’t spend as much on YOUR education. You can help fix this problem today by clicking this link and even just donating a bit to help your favorite teacher. Day 5 of Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week at Rogers-Herr! Disney Theme!

Today we celebrated with pizza and salad from Pizza Planet (aka Domino’s)! Special thanks to Domino’s at Woodcroft for giving the PTA a discount!

And, to end the week, the PTA gave prizes to 17 random teachers! Special thanks to Nothing Bundt Cakes (Durham), The Secret Baker, Big Bad Breakfast - Durham, Durham Toffee, and Kendra Scott for donating to our school! 💙

One lucky winner also received a photo of the 2026 Durham Bulls baseball team which was signed by every player, every coach, Wool E. Bull, and Blue Monster! ⚾️

National School Principals’ Day is May 1.

But since we’re in the midst of Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week, Rogers-Herr celebrated Principal Stewart today instead!

Each grade/department, as well as the PTA, spoiled Dr. Stewart with cards, gifts, banners, and sweet treats! 💜💙💜

School nurses help maintain a healthy school environment and are a bridge between healthcare and education. And many RHMS students require medicine during the school day.

National School Nurse Day was 06MAY2026 but we celebrated our RHMS nurse today since we share her with another school! 😄

National Interpreter Appreciation Day honors sign language & spoken language interpreters and their contribution to helping EVERYONE communicate.

Rogers-Herr has 4 interpreters/interveners/facilitators and 2 teachers that assist our deaf/hard of hearing students every day. We are thankful for them and their role in promoting INCLUSION for all students! 💙

Today we celebrated Cinqo de Mayo with Coco and a taco bar from cosmic.cantina.ch!

The food smelled so yummy, staff started eating before I could take pictures! 😆🌮🇲🇽 But I did get a photo of the sweetest mother/son duo that delivered the food for us!
