Join us for a pint at Full Steam Brewery in Durham for our FREE events to listen to engaging, accessible scientific presentations given by local scientists and educators. -------------------------

Learn about topics such as the Solar system, the Milky Way and other galaxies near and far, supernovae, and the origins of the Universe! Speakers are affiliated with organizations including the state's top universities, the NC Science Museum, and NASA. 🌌 Astronomy on Tap-Triangle Event 3 is lined up! 🔭

We’re back Fullsteam ATC for another night of astronomy, and this time, we’re tuning into the universe’s most powerful cosmic symphony 🎶

What happens when supermassive black holes spiral toward one another? And what happens when countless pairs create a cosmic chorus?

Our featured talk will explore how supermassive black hole binaries produce gravitational waves, and how the signals from countless binaries overlap to create a background hum across the universe. Astronomers have found evidence of this gravitational-wave background using an observatory that spans our galaxy, opening an exciting new window into the cosmos! 🌠

But there’s still more to discover. Fainter gravitational-wave signals are waiting to be uncovered, offering even more opportunities to explore the universe’s most extreme objects and events.

Tune in to learn about gravitational-waves symphonies, monstrous black holes, colliding galaxies, dead stars, and more! 🤯

As always, the event is FREE and open to all ages! You must be 21+ to enjoy the spicy elixir. 🍻

And, of course, there will be astronomy trivia, good drinks good company, and plenty of opportunities to learn something new.

MEET THE SPEAKER 🎙️✨

At our October AoT event, we’re journeying through the universe searching for life beyond 🌍, with Dr. Rachel Smith.

Rachel is an observational astronomer interested in how our solar system and other planetary systems form and evolve over time. She oversees the visual content of the Astronomy & Astrophysics Research Lab NC Museum of Natural Sciences while also being a professor at Appalachian State University! She is also responsible for curating the Museum’s meteorite collection and is currently expanding the collection, examining meteorites, and exploring other visualization tools.

🌌 Astronomy on Tap-Triangle Event 2 is On Deck! 🔭

We’re back at Fullsteam ATC for another night of astronomy, and this time, we’re asking one of the biggest questions in the universe:

Are we alone? 👽🌎

Our featured speaker is NC Museum of Natural Sciences scientist Dr. Rachel Smith, who will take us on an exciting tour through the universe in search of life beyond Earth. From our own planet and the Solar System to distant exoplanets and deep-space observations, Dr. Smith will explore how astronomers search for habitable worlds — and what the data can tell us about the possibility of life elsewhere.

She’ll also share some of her current research on massive forming stars and how these stellar nurseries connect to the formation of our own Solar System 4.6 billion years ago. 🌟

As always, the event is FREE and open to all ages! You just have to be 21+ to enjoy the spicy elixir. 🍻

MEET THE SPEAKER 🎙️✨

At our September AoT event, we’re taking on one of the biggest mysteries in the cosmos, dark energy, with Dr. Georges Obied.

Georges is a new Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics & Astronomy at UNC Chapel Hill and a “string phenomenologist.” He has explored how extra dimensions and quantum corrections to general relativity could show up in particle physics and cosmology. In other words, he uses fundamental physics to tackle some of the universe’s biggest mysteries, including dark energy, dark matter, and how the universe began.

Our first event is 7:00 pm on Tuesday, September 1st Fullsteam ATC! Note that AoT-Triangle events have switched location AND weekday. Events are now scheduled for the first Tuesday of the month, and yes, we’re back at Fullsteam ATC!
