Did you know that all of our camp counselors are certified in Pediatric & Adult First Aid, CPR, and AED through the American Red Cross? ⛑️ This hands-on training is led by Porter Anderson, Camp Program Manager and Red Cross Certified Instructor, ensuring seasonal staff are prepared to respond with confidence when it matters most.

We’re proud to provide and fund this certification for every camp counselor as part of our commitment to safety!

PWC’s small but mighty full-time team! 💚 together, we run camps year-round across three counties, care for 23 Wildlife Ambassadors, and reach approximately 16,000 people per year through camps, wildlife programs, outreach, and more.

We have a lot of big things coming up (staff training for incoming counselors, followed by the first week of summer camp! ☀️) so we took a staff trip to have fun and unwind at the Museum of Life and Science! The best part? Witnessing Carolina (Red Wolf) feed her 5 pups and meeting an Owl Caterpillar! 🐺

Welcome to PWC, Periscope! 🥰 Periscope (AKA Peri) is a Virginia Opossum and our newest Wildlife Ambassador.

Peri was found as part of an orphaned litter. Her and her siblings were brought to a rehabilitator, where she grew increasingly habituated to humans — and was deemed non-releasable as a result.

We’re still getting to know Peri, but so far we’ve learned that she’s an absolute sweetheart who loves eggs, chicken, and a cozy spot to sleep above all else. 😴

Keep an eye out for Peri to join our educational programming soon! 💗

We’re thrilled to announce Maggie Martinez (.jpeg) of Raleigh as the winner of our 2026 Camp T-Shirt Design Contest! 🪶

“For this piece, I wanted to make sure that I made something personal, something that would mean a lot to campers, families and wildlife enthusiasts. I drew inspiration from native North Carolina wildlife, making sure to highlight unique species that people may come across when connecting with nature.

I also wanted to showcase the community built around Piedmont Wildlife Center, making sure to include pieces that symbolize discovery and conservation. I am beyond grateful to have been chosen by the community to represent PWC and its mission.”

Thank you so much, Maggie, for your thoughtful and creative depiction of PWC! 💚

Every piece submitted has a special place in our hearts. We’re excited to celebrate our talented runners-up, Lili Roberts and Liessa Bowen! 🌟

Our 2026 Camp T-Shirt will be available for purchase in-person and online this summer. As always, 100% of proceeds go right back to our mission!
