A fish migration in downtown Exeter? Since the Great Dam came down in 2016, alewives have been making a comeback—and Exeter is paying attention. Volunteers count fish from the bridge, and Exeter TV’s Bob Glowacky even sets up an underwater camera so residents can follow their journey from the couch.

The maple syrup is only part of the reason they keep coming back. For the Farnham family in Elliottsville, Maine, sugaring season means long walks in the woods, catching up with family and a welcome break from everyday life. Making syrup brings them together. Being outdoors is a reward of its own.
