What does it take to move innovation from a promising idea to sustainable, system-wide impact?

That question guided our recent celebrating ten years of the Global Health Innovation Grant (GHIG) program, supported by The Pfizer Foundation. Leaders from The Pfizer Foundation, Innovations in Healthcare, Last Mile Health, Sevamob, and BIVE shared lessons from a decade of supporting innovators.

One message was clear: healthcare innovation is rarely linear. Lisa Bourget emphasized flexible funding, technical support, local leadership, and strong . Jenny Sia highlighted stage-appropriate , expertise, networks, government partners, and suitable capital. Eunice Mutindi underscored sustainable business models, early government engagement, and data-driven impact. Courtney Evans Henke illustrated the value of listening and user-centered design; Shelley Saxena highlighted peer learning and room to test and pivot; and Jorge Alejandro García Ramírez showed how innovation networks can strengthen leadership, community, and new business models.

A successful pilot is only the beginning. Lasting, system-wide impact requires long-term financing, trusted partnerships, government readiness, institutional capacity, and sustained support.

On August 26, a glacier collapse sent flash floods through central Nepal, through communities we have served for years. Homes are gone. Health facilities are gone. Thousands of families have lost everything.

In moments like this, a pregnant woman or a newborn baby is among the first to be cut off from the care they need to survive.
