Good afternoon everyone! It's been ages since we've posted, and a lot has changed here at PAWS.

The black kitten found on our porch (named Rumaki) has found a new home with a family that adopted a rescue dog from us previously. Mimosa has also found a permanent, loving home and is slowly but surely overcoming her many health issues. Unfortunately, our dear Sunshine passed away from acute kidney failure a little while back. We miss her each and every day. A new dog has wandered into our home- literally! Gladiator (pictured here) is an intact male pit bull who walked into our back yard and never left. He has proven to be lovable and goofy, and will be looking for a new home shortly. We have also found a home for one of our roosters, Salsa- because our neighbors decided to get hens, our boys could no longer free roam and did not do well being contained together, even in a 400 sq ft pen. Salsa's new home has several beautiful hens for him to watch over! However, Nugget now seems quite lonely and may end up going to a new home where he too can have some hens to keep him company. We have also added a mouse, named Crackers, to our family. She was a feeder mouse for a python that came into the vet and was so sweet, I simply couldn't let her get eaten! Crackers LOVES fresh veggies, dried bananas and her yogurt drops and has been as sweet a mouse as you could ask for. She is available for adoption!

The rest of our furry critters all seem happy and healthy. They are enjoying summertime and all it has to offer- swimming in the river, fresh breezes and sun bathing. Enjoy your week!

Hello everyone! Look at what we found on the porch today! Poor little guy has an upper respiratory infection and is not feeling too well, especially in this cold weather! We gave him a nice meal and a comfy bed and he settled right in. We'll be bringing him to the vet soon and will keep you updated on his status. :) Stay warm!

A good friend of ours rescued this handsome hound on the day of his scheduled euthanasia at the shelter. He is in need of a home ASAP once healthy, she has a large pack already! Please help spread the word about this boy, he is a lucky lucky dog to have been saved at the last minute! We will post more details when we have them, please message us if you or anyone you know is interested!

Hello everyone! It's been a while since we've updated our page- we hope you have all had a great holiday season and are enjoying the new year! We have both happy and sad news to share with you. Good news first- Mimosa has found a home! She is adored by many people and loves her new dog sister! She is still undergoing her heartworm treatment, which will continue for several more months, before she is 100% cured. But that means that Erin gets to see her at Triangle Vet when she comes in!

As for the bad news, our dear Sunshine has been diagnosed with degenerative myelopathy. Unfortunately there is no cure for this disease, which will eventually leave Sunshine's hind end paralyzed. The silver lining in the cloud is that the disease is painless, so she will not suffer as it progresses. In the meantime we are doing all we can to keep her as comfortable as possible, which includes cooking her homemade meals every day and giving her tons of special love and attention. Sunshine has been a trooper so far and is not letting her disease keep her down- she is still going on walks with us, is loving her new meals, and seems happy and excited about each new day. We are doing our best to remain positive and give her the support she needs for her last few months.

We will be looking to hold a fundraiser in the near future in order to pay off some of our veterinary bill. Any ideas would be appreciated! Thanks for reading and supporting our rescue!

It's been a while since we've updated about Mimosa. She has been battling several health problems for the past few weeks that occurred due to her poor health, but is on the mend. She has gained about 15 pounds, and is still on medication to help her recovery along. Meanwhile she remains the sweet and loving dog she has been since we first met her. We have discovered that she has an intense love of both peanut butter and toys, especially rubber ones. She will do anything to try and get on your lap, from sneaking up to downright flying onto it. She gives wonderful kisses and is learning how to walk on a leash (and walk off-leash) properly. We have gotten a chance to give closer examination to her old wounds and have found that she seems to have extensive damage to her nasal passages, gums, teeth, lips and muzzle from her days as a bait dog. Because of this, Mimosa breathes very hard through her nose as though she is congested all the time. Despite all this, our brave girl is still remaining strong and has not let her past weigh her down- she is as happy as ever! Her adoption status has been put on hold until the health issues are resolved, but we still welcome interested people to come meet her!

Our new dog is settling in super well! We have named her Mimosa because she is so bubbly and sweet! So far she is crate trained, potty trained, and gets along great with the other animals (though she is a little TOO curious about the roosters...). We could not be more pleased with her. We are still searching for a foster or adoptive home, so if you know of anyone please let me know. Meanwhile we will continue to update everyone on how she is doing :) She is a super duper cuddler!

Hello everyone! We have been super busy here at PAWS but would like to take a moment to welcome in the newest member of our rescue family. She was found running down the road about a week ago, and today is her first day here at PAWS. We don't know anything about how she is with other animals, but we do know she is the sweetest girl with people. She wants nothing more than to cuddle up and receive praise. This poor girl has suffered a hard life- she has a large amount of damage done to her neck, face and ears and is very malnourished. She has tested heartworm positive and we will be covering her heartworm treatment, spay and microchip when she is healthy enough. She has already been vaccinated. Despite the cruelties she has obviously endured, she has proven to be very people oriented and loves being around you. We are searching for a foster or adoptive home for her where she can receive the love and care she deserves. We have not yet named her, but will come up with something soon. While it saddens us to see the pain this dog has endured, her loving and trustful nature serve as a lesson of why we started PAWS in the first place. Animals are truly amazing- always remember to hug and kiss your furry kids!

we are heartbroken to have to share the news that one of our cats, Fiesta, passed away this week. Fiesta was a very special girl- she was fun, and feisty, and loved to play with her toys and flirt with Taquito. she brought happiness to all of our lives here and never failed to make us smile. our extraordinary veterinary team is working hard to find out what caused Fiesta's health decline, which happened very rapidly and without warning. The sudden death of one of our own has made us even more aware of how precious life is- hug and kiss your furry kids every day, because you really never know how long you have with them.

We just took a little camping trip up at Kerr Lake and the dogs LOVED it. Sunshine learned how to swim, Mellow dug a million holes in the sand, and everyone had a blast! The cats welcomed their break from the dogs at home and had free run of the house. A nice way for PAWS Rescue to welcome in summer!

Here is an album of our current animals for adoption. As they become adopted, their photo will be taken down and put into a different album. We try to update photos as often as possible- we just did a Halloween photo shoot and will be doing a Christmas one soon! Also available are the mothers of the kittens, who are about 1yr old and very sweet!
